The Parable of the Two Foundations

Anyone who comes to

me, and listen to my words and

it makes, is similar to the

man who builds
a house, dug and delved
and laid the foundation
about the rock...

 INTRODUCTION

The Word of God says: "Everyone who comes to me, and hears my words and the

house, dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock; and when a
flood, the river struck with force against that house, but it could not move it,
because it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did not do is like the
man who built his house on the ground, without a foundation; against which the river came
with vigor, and then fell, and great was the ruin of that house” (Luke 6:47-49).

This portion of the Bible is called the parable of the two foundations; it is so clear and
simple its language that we do not need to consider various biblical versions, nor
analyze the meaning of some Greek word, nor have the wisdom of Solomon
to understand his teaching. Our Lord Jesus Christ speaks to us mainly in
this parable, about two men who have built their house, of two types of
different foundations, and two totally different results.

In verse 48 we see the first case: "He is like a man who when building a
house, dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock; and when a
flood, the river struck with force against that house, but it could not move it,
because it was founded on the rock.

This hardworking and diligent man dug and drilled until he encountered the rock.

Something interesting about this case is to know who this man represents. This man
who built his house on the rock, represents someone who according to verse 47,
He did three things: "Everyone who comes to me, hears my words and puts them into practice..."
man represents the people who: 1.- come to Christ, 2.- listen to his message, and
3.- they obey that message.

The Bible says that everyone who comes to Christ, he does not cast them out, he does not reject them.
(John 6:37), because he himself invites it: "Come to me all you who are weary and
loaded, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). The fact of coming to Christ, of
to look for it, to want to be in front of him and meet him, is like the work of digging and
dig deep until you find the firm rock.
The most interesting thing about all this is that Christ Jesus represents in this parable,
rock firm upon which the prudent man will build his house.

If you want to, if you wholeheartedly wish to build a spiritual house, if you
he wants to serve God properly, if he wants to receive forgiveness for his sins and the
eternal life must seek and turn to Jesus Christ and no one else.

The Bible does not invite you to go before any religious organization, before any ruler or
doctor in theology, or before any other person or institution, but before the person
divine of Jesus Christ, because to this God the Father pointed (John 6:27).

The apostle Paul says: 'For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid'
position, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:11).

Jesus is the foundation of heavenly things, designated and appointed by God himself.

of our salvation. 'And there is no salvation in any other; for there is no other name
under heaven, given to men, in which we may be saved” (Acts 4:12).

In addition to recognizing Christ as the rock of salvation, the good foundation for
our spiritual building, we must listen to it, to hear it carefully. It says the
Bible that faith comes from hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17).

Good people come to have faith in Christ Jesus by listening to his words, and that
it grants and empowers you to obey it, having as a reward or prize life
eternal.

The third thing that the prudent man does is to obey the message he has.
heard from Jesus. He has diligently and sincerely sought Christ, he has presented himself

Do not ignore the Lord, do not be content with just hearing Him, do not minimize any of His
commandments, gets to work, is faithful and obedient, because he knows that the message
of Jesus, is and comes from God.

The prudent man who diligently dug until he found the rock and upon it
built his house, then represents those who seek the truth of Jesus, they
they present themselves humbly before him, listen to him with interest, and obey with fidelity and
promptness of each and every one of your teachings.
When trials and temptation come, there is a way out, when it presents itself.

presence of God, when problems and adversities collide violently
against his faith, it remains unshakeable, because it is founded on the firm rock

See the security that this represents: "Though an army camps against me, not
My heart will be fearless; although war rises against me, I will be confident.
One thing I have asked of the Lord, that will I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

temple. For he will hide me in his tabernacle in the day of trouble; he will conceal me in

The house that the wise man builds upon the rock is not just stability and
holiness in your home, as some studies limit on the subject, but that
represents all things that belong to life and godliness, which we
have been given by his divine power" (2 Peter 1:3).

It represents our relationship and intimate communion with God, it represents our walk.
by His hand, our faith, attitude and obedience to all His commandments, our life
complete before God. This is what cannot be destroyed, when it has been
based on Jesus the rock, that is, in submission to his will and total attachment to his
authority.

Now let us look at the second case: "But he who heard and did not do, is like the man
he who built his house on the ground, without foundation; against which the river struck
momentum, and then it fell, and great was the ruin of that house.

This man did not want to dig or delve, he did not want to go deep into the earth searching for
the firm rock, but simply limited himself to building his house on the sand
same. He did not lay a foundation, he did not build a base. When the river came against the house,
he fell and his ruin was great.

Who does this other case represent? Who is the foolish man that he speaks of?
Verse 49? It says the same verse: 'the one who heard and did not do.'

This case represents the vast majority of people, who do not recognize or do not
They want to obey the message of God brought by His Son Jesus.
To begin with, some don't even go to him, they settle for what they hear.
to speak about Jesus and religions, believing any message without verifying that it is
from God, they switch from one doctrine to another as if changing clothes, because

Christ is not the foundation and origin of his doctrines. The foolish man does not go to
Jesus. The foolish man does not listen to Jesus.

Christ is not a slogan or an image to be placed somewhere. The person of

Jesus is united with his message. Going to Jesus is going to his message. Whoever wishes to be of God,
the Words of God they hear, for that reason many Jews did not hear them, even being part of
chosen people of God, for they were not of God (John 8:47).

Many people sympathize with the image of Jesus, even wanting to be or saying they are.
to be friends with Jesus, but they do not want to hear his message, they do not agree with him,
they reject your authority.

The sad reality for many Christians is that they accept only part of the message.
of God, many things they do not like, many things even bother them. They want to choose
which parts of the Bible to listen to and obey, and set aside those that they do not.

acceptable spiritual sacrifices to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore
it also contains the Scripture: Behold, I lay in Sion the chief cornerstone
angle, chosen, precious; And whoever believes in him will not be ashamed. For
you, then, who believe, he is precious; but for those who do not believe, the stone
the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; and: Stone of
stumble, and rock that makes one fall, because they stumble on the word, being
disobedient; to which they were also destined" (1 Peter 2:4-8).
Jesus Christ is the living stone, chosen and precious; He is the rock of salvation, and this
test his deity for only God is called the rock of salvation. For those of us who believe
and we obey Him, He is precious, and He is the exclusive channel through which
we can offer our sacrifices to God, but for those who do not believe, God them
send this message: Christ is the foundation established by God, only he has
words of eternal life, if they disobey, it is as if they fall stumbling with their
words. For that, and eternal punishment, they were destined by the Lord.

Brothers, the consequences of rejecting Christ as the rock for our life
spiritual, do not limit themselves to failure in life here on earth, but to the great ruin of

rock was Christ. But God was not pleased with most of them; therefore, they remained
stretched out in the desert. But these things happened as examples for
us..." (1 Corinthians 10:4-6).

Do not focus on how the preacher speaks or his appearance, for the message is not his;
Do not focus on or think about the flaws of the brotherhood, for they do not help you nor do they justify you.

Better think of yourself standing alone before Christ's tribunal on the final judgment.

If you are not a Christian, building the house on the rock means hearing the Word of God.
(Romans 10:17), to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (John 3:16), to repent of
the sins (Acts 3:19), confess their faith in Christ (Romans 10:9), be baptized in
water for the forgiveness of their sins (Acts 2:38), and to persevere until the end (Matthew
24.13).
If you are already a Christian, building the house on the rock is doing everything in the name of
Lord Jesus, believe and trust in him, obey all his instructions, worship him
according to His word and will, to live in such a way that it magnifies and gives glory to Him
name, bear fruit and bear much fruit, grow in the knowledge of your Savior, and
be faithful until death.

This is an exceptional good news: in the person of Jesus Christ, and thanks to the plan and
God's design, we can find eternal redemption or condemnation, He is the
rock that keeps us safe, or is it the stone we stumble upon, but only
we decide what to choose.

Jesus said: "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, even though he is dead,
He will live. And everyone who lives and believes in me will not die eternally. Do you believe this?
(John 11:25-26).

Do you remember when your dad told you to cross the street? You obeyed him.
immediately, without fear and without looking to the sides, why? Because you ...
his mere presence was enough to feel safe, for he fully trusted in his
experience, in its capacity and in its purposes.

God offers you to trust in Christ as the firm rock on which to build your whole house,
Do you have reasons to believe in Christ? Do you feel secure and can trust in him and his
purposes and promises? Then obey it immediately, without stopping to look.
