PROJECT WASTEWATER TREATMENT

GREASE TRAP–SEDIMENTER

LOCATION: AV. JOSE CARLOS MARIATEGUI S/N - PARCEL 30 OF LSO

LOTS 76 and 77 OF THE LA ESTRELLA ESTATE, DISTRICT OF
ATE, PROV. and DEPT. OF LIMA

OBJECTIVE
The objective of this study is the design of a Grease Trap - Settler, for the
Retail market owned by the Enrique Street Vendors Association
Castilla Linares, which will condition the wastewater produced by washing of
products from the meat, fish, and vegetable stalls, as well as the cleaning of containers and
services in terms of fats, suspended solids and settleable solids, to comply with the
maximum allowable values (VMA) required by D.S. No. 021-2009- Housing.

BACKGROUND

With Letter No. 460-2016-EEC-AR (C), the Association is informed of

Street vendors Enrique Castilla who have undergone an unannounced monitoring of the
non-domestic wastewater from the retail market. Resulting in the sample an excess of
concentration regarding Annex 2 of D.S. N° 021-2009- Housing, as follows:

THEREFORE:
In addition, the characterization of non-domestic waters has been carried out in the
the following complementary parameters:

According to the results obtained from the laboratory of water, soil, environment, and fertigation.
from the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering of the National Agrarian University La Molina, to
the obtained values comply with Annex 1 of D.S. N° 021-2009- Housing.
In that sense, a grease trap will be designed for future expansions of non-uses.

Characteristics of Drains

They must strictly adhere to what is established by D.S. No. 021-2009- Housing, before its
download to the public network.

The maximum values that discharges must have to enter the public collector are
following:
Since all the operations carried out in the laundry facilities of the work area are
they are performed with cold tap water, the temperature of the sampled waste water does not exceed
25°C, the pH remains on average at 7; regarding the suspended solids and
sedimentables, the largest amount can be retained by effective placement of
grates with drain meshes in the wash basins in order to reduce the solids that
they could enter the drain and the remainder would be retained by gravitational sedimentation
in the grease trap chamber.
Likewise, oils and fats will decrease. they will be maintained for your download at
sewage, in that sense it is necessary to implement a treatment system for the
non-domestic wastewater coming from the stalls, consisting of a grease trap -
sedimenter.

The following are the parameters and/or characteristics that will be mitigated with the treatment.

The Grease Trap

The determination of the design flow rate was carried out by measuring the flow rate of each tap.

Liquid Volume (lt) Flow x Time
Liquid Volume (lt) =0.16 x 600= 96 Lts.

Volume of solids (m3) = 19.60 x0.16 x 8 h x7 x60 x60/1000

Volume of solids (lt) 632.22 Lts.

A maintenance period of 7 days with 8 hours of work has been considered.

Designs of Sanitary Installations

The technical study of the diagnosis of the internal drainage network of the premises has been carried out.

Design of Treatment System Units

A treatment system has been implemented that consists of the following: a box

in the case of flushing, a grease trap and sedimentable solids and point of

sampling.

• Box in the event of draining.- It will consist of a junction box of 0.60 x 0.50 m, and it

will be placed before the grease trap, where the grates are installed. The maintenance

it will be done daily.

• Grease and suspended and settleable solids traps - the characteristics are

the following:

Flow = 0.24 lps.

Trap volume (1t) = Liquid volume + Fat volume + SSS volume

Trap volume (lt) = 144Lts + 13.3Lts + 299.98Lts = 457.28 Lts

0.46 m3

Retention period Volume trap/Average flow

Sizing of the Trap

According to the technical specifications manual for the design of grease traps,

the relationship length (L): width (a) of the surface area of the grease trap

it should be between 2:1 to 3:2, preferably

VoVolume =0.46 m3

Assumed height (h) 1.30m

Relationship L-A = 3:2

Long (L) 1.20 meters.

Wide 0.80 meters.

0.80m
Height (h)

Calculation of Total Useful Volume

Total volume = V fats + V liquid + V solids

Total volume (1t) 13.3Lts + 144Lts + 299.98Lts
Total Volume (It) = 457.28 Lts
Total Volume (m3) = 0.46 m3
Useful height (m) = 0.46/1.2/0.8 = 0.40m (sufficient height)

Usable height (m) 0.80 m (minimum height recommended by CEPIS)

Calculation of heights

= Vliq/L/a
Height of the liquid

Liquid height (m3) = 0.15 /1.2/0.80 = 0.16m

Height of Fats =Vg/L/a

Height of Fats (m3) 0.014/1.2/0.80 = 0.016m
Height of Solids = Vss/L/a
Height of the Solids (m3) = 0.30 /1.2/0.80 = 0.31m

The grease trap consists of a reinforced concrete box measuring 1.20 m x 0.80 m and useful height
0.80 m. (See plan Grease trap IS-02), will be coated with cement mortar and

MAINTENANCE MANUAL OF

According to the deadlines established in the design of the treatment systems (every seven

of people, if possible when there is no production.

Materials needed for maintenance:

Buckets.

Plastic bags, with good weight resistance.

Scooper (for removing fats).
Spatula or scraper, to remove the Iodines from the bottom.
Spare parts and accessories: Tee traps, elbows, PVC glue.
Mops.
Do not use hot water, acids, or caustic soda for maintenance.

Recommendation:
It is advisable to fill the treatment system with water, at least up to half of its
useful volume (or working volume), before putting it back into operation.

Other recommendations:
In order to prevent our clients from being subject to sanctions as a result of
infringements of the current legal regulations, some guidelines to follow are listed below:

Health education:
Do not use the sewer systems as a deposit for solid waste or fats; they
they must be removed and arranged for their transfer to landfills, avoiding them being
dragged into the sewers.
Do not discharge cooling waste or steam condensates directly into
public collector.
Do not build septic tanks, cesspools, latrines, or any other disposal system.
dangerous or inconvenient in urban areas where there are public sewer networks and
technically it is possible to connect to them.
Do not interrupt, using artificial means, the flow of the drains that run through the
pipes, with the purpose of modifying, even if temporarily, their normal "tension" of
stable hydraulic regime.
Substances or compounds that affect the lifespan of networks should not be downloaded.
Such wastewater can enter the respective treatment system for those
waste.
Avoid washing as it can carry large amounts of settleable solids.
Keep the drainage cover plates in good condition to prevent the entry of
waste without treatment to the collector.
•Avoid discharging wastewater from wet processes that contain physical characteristics -
non-domestic chemicals, without receiving the respective treatment. It is advisable to
evaluate the downloads in each process in order to take the appropriate corrective actions.
Have a register box or sampling point before its splice into the network
allow Sedapal to carry out the respective verification.
