Sampling Methods in Applied Statistics

This document presents information on Applied Statistics II. It explains concepts such as sampling, sampling methods, sampling error, and the sampling distribution of the mean. It then provides two numerical examples to calculate population means, sample means, and compare them.

APPLIED STATISTICS II

Week of
Summary of chapter 2. Prepare a summary of the entire chapter.
The summary must be written by hand, on this sheet, and submitted to the tutor as part of the assignment.

SAMPLING METHODS
It consists of determining something about a population from a sample. A sample is a
proportion or part of the population.

Reasons for sampling: there are various practical reasons to prefer some parts of this
to observe or measure. Here are some reasons:

Establishing contact with the entire population takes a lot of time.

2. The cost of studying all elements of a population is prohibitive.

3. It is important to physically verify all elements of the population.
Some tests are of a destructive nature.
The sample results are adequate

Simple Random Sampling

It is the sample selected so that each element or individual of the population has the
same chances of being included.

Stratified Random Sample

It is when a population is divided into subgroups, called strata, and selections are made from them.
draw a sample of each one.

CLUSTER SAMPLING
The population is divided into clusters based on natural geographical boundaries or other
class. Next, these are selected randomly and a sample is taken randomly
with elements from each group.

SAMPLING ERROR
Difference between the statistical state of a sample and the population parameter
corresponding.

Sampling distribution of the mean

Probability distribution of all possible means of samples from a certain
sample size of the population.

CENTRAL LIMIT THEOREM

Yes
all samples of a particular size are selected from any population, the
the sample mean distribution approximates a normal distribution, this improves with
larger samples.
