Nowadays, it is true that keeping in touch with other people and new events through social
media has become a prevailing trend among people in all ages. While there are drawbacks of
this phenomenon, I would argue that the advantages more than compensate for any
disadvantages.
On the one hand, using social platforms to connect with people and get the latest information
on a regular basis can exert the negative influence on real-life relationshipsIn terms of
relationships, people who overuse online sites as their primary method of communication may
feel disconnected from people around them due to their lack of social interaction. A case in
point is that, most children today are distant from their friends since they merely immerse
themselves in online communication with strangers, thereby limiting their face-to-face
communication. As a consequence, even studying in the same class, the gap between children
and their mates may still exist. This situation makes these kids feel isolated and gradually
become detached from social/meaningful/real-life relationships.
On the other hand, social media have brought a plethora of benefits to human beings
especially to their interpersonal growth and safety. To begin with, social platforms allow
people not only expand their social circles but also contact each other anytime thanks to their
popularity and convenience. For example, students from remote areas can take advantage of
these to connect with excellent professors, whom they may never have a chance to meet and
learn from directly, but via these sites they can enroll in an online course and gain access to
better education quality. Second, social media enable users to stay updated about various
news and events happening around their lives. For instance, by utilizing online sites to
disseminate wanted notices or urgent information, police can rapidly catch up with the traces
of crimes thanks to public support. Moreover, when it comes to this type of news, people in
all corners of the country are not only well-informed to cooperate with the authorities
effectively but also more cautious in dealing with emergencies
In conclusion, although social media still brings about certain drawbacks, I consider that the
advantages of these products outweigh the drawbacks.
