Group Assignment

Money Banking and Financial Markets


IPM 03, Semester V
Submission deadline: 24th September (5:45 PM)

Objective: To analyse and compare institutional design, market development, and regulatory
frameworks influence financial stability and growth of one developed and one emerging
nation.

Guidelines
● Group Size (8 Members). The group will be divided into two each of four members.

● Country Allocation - Each sub-group will focus on one country’s financial system
(one developed vs. one emerging country.
● Data to be downloaded from World Bank, IMF databases.

● Word Limit: 5,000–8,000 words (including appendices).


● Plagiarism beyond the permissible Institute limits is not allowed.

Aspects to be Compared (for each country)


1. Overview of Financial System
o Bank-based vs. Market-based economy
o Size & structure (banks, capital markets, insurance, fintech)
2. Capital Markets
o Stock exchanges, bond markets, derivatives
o Market capitalization as % of GDP (Data to be extracted and plotted into a
graph)
o Liquidity & investor participation (domestic vs. foreign)
3. Financial Inclusion & Innovation
o Access to banking (account penetration, mobile money)
o Fintech adoption (Example: UPI in India, PayPal in US)
4. Regulatory Framework
o Regulators (e.g., SEC, FCA, SEBI, BaFin, CBIRC)
o Reforms & financial stability mechanisms
5. Recent Trends & Challenges
o Impact of global crises (2008, COVID-19, interest rate hikes)
o Current issues (shadow banking, ESG finance, digital currencies)
