The Historical-Structural Method
We have considered various methods, which fail because they do not take into account the
text in its linguistic and historical context. Therefore, this method will provide us
elementary principles for the proper interpretation of the biblical text. Some of its
the most outstanding characteristics are:
1. Object of the method:
As hinted in its title, the purpose of this Bible study method is to find the
meaning of the text and what the inspired author wanted to express. We start from the premise that
that the author had a clear idea of what he was saying. However, in how well
The apostle Peter clarifies that there are occasions when the prophets did not have a clear understanding of
the scope of their words (1P.1:10-12). Therefore, we maintain that the Bible must
to be interpreted like any literary work.
2. The linguistic analysis:
The interpreter of the Scriptures must consider that the Bible was originally written in
Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. For greater precision in the interpretation of the
Scriptures require certain knowledge of those languages. If not, it is possible
to refer to biblical dictionaries (or commentaries) that will provide us with valuable assistance in
regarding.
3. The analysis of the context:
We cannot reach a complete understanding of the passage if we do not first...
we analyze the context in which it is found. An aphorism says appropriately: “A
text without context is a pretext.
Other factors:
1. Biblical revelation is based on assumptions that transcend experience.
historical. As the creator of the universe, the Lord of history (God), not only
determines the course of history, as it can and intervenes directly when
he deems it necessary. The most eloquent example of this is the resurrection of Christ.
Consequently, strictly historical methods are shown
sufficient to investigate the bible
2. The Bible is not the story of man seeking God or the story of the
human religious experience. They are not lessons of moral rules, nor mere
record of the history of the Hebrew people or a religious group. It is, by the
on the contrary, the story about God and His deeds in favor of salvation of the
man and his own Glory: the story of redemption. Thus, the thread of union
between the O.T and the N.T is exactly that 'notion of divine activity in the
history.
3. The biblical history, including that of the people of Israel and the Church in the new
dispensation is a particular segment of sacred history, the segment of
the story in which God reveals Himself like no other. The historical facts
those recorded in the Scriptures are, therefore, revealing facts, as by
through them God reveals himself, his attributes, his will and
purposes. The clearest expression of that revelation occurs in the events
historical events related to birth, life, ministry
