Modifiers (Beginner Tutorial)
In this tutorial, you’ll learn about modifiers and see which are most commonly
used.
First of all, what is modifiers? Modifiers are used to change the shape or poly
number of the object. They can do any effect on all parts of the object or some
certain areas.
A modifier can be added to an object through the Properties Menu which is shown
by a blue wrench. Press “plus add modifier” on the menu. You can search the
name of the modifier, or check the submenus for the exact modifier.
You can see the name of the object and name of the modifier on the top of the
menu. Each modifier have some settings, you need to be on Object Mode to see
the results more clearly.
The blocks in the modifier are used to see their effects in certain areas. This
square one, which is 2nd on the left, shows or hides the result on Edit Mode. Third
one, which has a screen on it, shows or hides the result in the Viewport. The last
one, which has a camera on it, shows or hides the results in render.
The down arrow has some features under it. Applying the modifier means that
you can’t make any changes in modifier anymore and see the results on
everywhere. If you don’t want this, don’t apply the modifier. Meshes added after
applying the modifier don’t affect by the modifier. You can also Duplicate the
modifier to the same object or Copy it to another object which is selected. Before
applying the modifier, you can also Delete the modifier.
If an object has more than one modifiers on it, they have an order. You can
change it by swiping them down or up, or use the down arrow menu. Their order
can change results, so you need to be careful about it. Also initially, apply the
first modifier to not change the results.
Some modifiers need some vertex groups. Choose the vertices you want to add
on Edit Mode, and use the Properties menu with green triangle icon. Click assign
to assign it to a vertex group. Some modifiers require also another object, so you
need to choose the other via Viewport or Outliner menu.
