Basketball or basquetbol is a sport in which two teams compete.

five players each. The objective is to get the ball (ball) into
the hoop (basket or net) of the opposing team, which is located at
3.05 meters tall. That's why basketball is usually played by
tall people.
This game was invented by the Canadian physical education teacher.
James Naismith, in December 1891. Naismith was looking to create a
activity for young people to carry out in an indoor gym
during the winter. This is how basketball was born, whose matches, in the
current events, they last 40 minutes (four periods of 10
minutes each). The exception to this rule is the American league of
the National Basketball Association (NBA), considered the best in the world,
whose matches last 48 minutes (four periods of 12 minutes). It is worth noting that there are several
different rules between the NBA and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the organization that
this sport is governed internationally.

Basketball Rules (FIBA)

Three points
According to FIBA rules, the three-point line is not the same as for
the NBA. As they follow the international metric system, the three-point line
The points in the FIBA rules is at 6.25 meters, or 20 feet and 6.25
inches, from the basket. In October 2010, this rule changed; the tall
competition levels moved the line to 6.75 meters or 22 feet and 1.75
inches of distance.

The lane
The lane leading to the basket is also different in FIBA rules. The lane begins
on the free throw line and is 3.6 meters wide (12 feet). The lane goes all the way to the
basket, but little by little it widens to 6 meters wide (19 feet and 8.25 inches). In
October 2010, due to the high levels of competition, it became a lane of 4.88 meters (16
This is the same size as the one used by the NBA.

Extension
Games are a little shorter in the FIBA competition than in the NBA. They last four
quarters and each quarter is 10 minutes.

Game clock stops

In the FIBA rules, the game clock does not stop after a
last minute annotation of each quarter. The game clock only
stops after a basket is made in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter and in the time
extra.

Time out
There are many fewer timeouts in FIBA rules. Each team only has two timeouts.
in the first half, three timeouts in the second half and one timeout for each period of
overtime. If a team does not use all of its permitted timeouts in the first half, it cannot
use them in the following.

October 2010, a timeout in the last two minutes of the game or in overtime moves the
ball to the top of the three-point line.

Changes

the FIBA rules, teams are also allowed to make substitutions
during referee stoppages, such as when the referee gives a player a
warning for stopping the game.

Faults

game. A violation that occurs during a dead ball is not a technical foul (it is only a personal foul).

Technical foul
In FIBA competitions, if a player commits a technical foul, the opposing team will have two
free throws and will receive possession of the ball at the halfway line.

Legal blockage
The rules regarding legal blocking or interference with the basket are
different in the FIBA rules. If the ball touches the rim, a player
he is still free to touch the ball. A sudden hit should be given to
send the ball far away or it can tilt inward.

Defense zone
In FIBA rules, teams are allowed to play defense in the lane area.
The player in the center of the zone is free to stay in the lane for as long as they wish.

Number of players
In FIBA competitions, the numbers on the back of the
players' shirts must have numbers between four and the

The direction of the dribble is almost vertical, as this type of action goes
usually associated with slow and short movements.

Pass from the chest

Execute the sustained pass of the ball approximately at the
chest height, with the thumbs pointing down and
the fingers comfortably spread over the ball. The
the palm bottoms should face the direction
of the pass. This hand position places the elbows in
an angle of separation from the longitudinal axis of the body
approximately 45º and an elbow flexion of 90º.
This position of the wrists and elbows is
followed by a series of coordinated movements in which the shoulders and elbows are extended
and the wrists and fingers are quickly flexed to apply force to the ball. They must
keep the arms parallel to each other and the palms facing outward at the end of the movement. These
actions are generally accompanied by a step and transfer of body weight in the direction
of the movement.

ball to stabilize it and prevent it from deviating when the shot is taken. The elbows must be
bent at an angle range between 45º and 90º, the arm
launch preferably parallel to the ground and the
vertical forearm, this variation will depend on the strength
muscular and/or the distance of the player from the hoop.
