Reproductions in Animals (2025-26)

Q1. What is reproduction? How many types of reproduction are there?

Q2. Name the parts of male reproductive organs in human beings? Draw its diagram.

Q3. Name the female reproductive organs in humans. Draw its diagram.

Q4. What is the structure of the sperm? Draw its diagram.

Q5. Name any two methods of asexual reproduction?

Q6. What is fertilization? Draw the necessary diagram.

Q7. Explain how hydra reproduces? Draw the diagram.

Q8. Differentiate between – (with examples)

a) Internal and External fertilization.

b) Oviparous and Viviparous.
c) Sexual Reproduction and Asexual Reproduction
Ans.

A Internal Fertilization External Fertilization

Occurs inside the body of the Occurs in the external (water) i.e. outside the body of
organism organism
For example: Mostly terrestrial For examples: Mostly aquatic organisms like fish,
organisms like higher animals, amphibians, etc..
reptiles, birds and animals

B Oviparous Animals Viviparous Animals

Fertilization and development are Fertilization and zygote development are internal
external
Eggs are laid (fertilized or Young ones are born
unfertilized)
Fertilized eggs are covered by hard Embryonic development completely take place inside the
calcareous shell and after female body & chance of survival of offspring are greater due
incubation, the young ones hatch to proper embryonic care and protection
out
For example: fish, amphibians, For example: majority of mammals, including human beings
reptiles and birds

C Sexual Reproduction Asexual Reproduction

1. Requires a male and a female parent Only one parent is required
2. Involves gamete formation and No gamete formation and fertilization are required
fertilization (fusion of gamete)
3. Offspring’s are genetically different Offspring’s are genetically identical to each other and
from each other and from the parents to the parents
4. Produces variations among individuals Does not produce any genetic variation
that lead to evolution
Q9. Draw the life cycle of frog.

Ans. From NCERT book

Q10. Give reasons:

A. Why do fish and frog lay hundreds of eggs?

B. Why sperms can move but an egg cannot?
Q11. Explain binary fission in amoeba. Draw the Diagram.

Q12. How does zygote develop into a complete organism? Explain and draw its diagram.

Ans. Fertilization results in the formation of zygote which begins to develop into an embryo. The zygote
divides repeatedly to give rise to a ball of cells. The cells then begin to form groups that develop into different
tissues and organs of the body. This developing structure is termed as an embryo. The embryo gets embedded
in the wall of the uterus for further development.

The embryo continues to develop in the uterus. It gradually develops body parts such as hands, legs, head,
eyes, ears, etc. The stage of the embryo in which all the body parts can be identified is called a foetus. When
the development of the foetus is complete, the mother gives birth to the baby.
