intention to write. I don't even know how much time I will invest
in the making of the book, but what I am clear about is that I am
determined and very excited to do it.
This is a book about sophrology and the RDC method (relaxation
Caycedo's dynamic), which aims for the reader to be able to
put it into practice and with the continued practice of the method
achieve a better quality of life, which is the only objective for
which was created the sophrology.
This book does not intend to be a substitute for anything, much less for a
sophrologist or trainer in sophrology, which is essential for the
drafting of various personal protocols or for the sessions
in a group. At the end of the book, there is a list of sophrologists that
they did their training at the same time as I did and they dedicate
part of their time or all of it to teach the RDC method, also

I have introduced some of the main phonic techniques, which...

CHAPTER 1
HOW I CAME TO KNOW SOFRONOLOGY
Let's go back in the space-time dimension and head towards
a place and a day in 1998. I remember that the previous year I had
finished theoretical-experiential training in Gestalt therapy.
At that time I wanted to finish my psychology studies.
to fully dedicate myself to therapy.
Since I needed some books to finish some work, I...
I traveled to a bookstore specialized in these topics in
Alicante. I was spending more and more time 'losing myself.'
between books and getting excited about the new releases.
It was there that I saw a title that caught my attention, the book in

Suddenly, I realized that this was what I wanted.
to do, because it synthesized in some way many of the techniques
that I had already practiced. I was really excited.
I finished the book and now what I was wondering was where I could
find a place to learn those fantastic techniques,
of which I didn't really know much, but I was sure
of what they would function.

Let's go back to the 'coincidences'; one random morning, when

Well, this is how my adventure in this school was going to

CHAPTER 2
DEFINITION OF SOPHROLOGY
It is a great honor for me to have been a direct student of the Doctor
Alfonso Caycedo, without whom sophrology likely would not
it could have been created or it would have been done differently and with another
name.
It was precisely this psychiatrist who made it possible that
sophrology emerged in 1960, when I was working on the
Clinical Hospital of Madrid (what is now the Reina Sofía Museum).
The term sophrology comes from the Greek roots: SOS
(balance), PHREN (mind) and LOGOS (study). The study of the
consciousness in balance.
Sofrology is a scientific discipline that is based on the
phenomenology and what studies consciousness and the conquest of the
existential values of being, always with therapeutic purposes and
preventive.

Since sophrology is the study of human consciousness, and

to be able to do this easily, Doctor Caycedo made a
division of consciousness into two parts:
The first would consist of four levels, and the second would be
formed by three states. In sophrology, it is called the theory of
Fan for the shape it takes when drawn.
The levels of consciousness would include:
The vigil, the subliminal level, the dream, the coma

The states of consciousness would be:

Pathological states, states of ordinary consciousness
The states of somnambulistic consciousness.

A B A N I CO

When we talk about sophrology, the most important level would be the
SOFROLIMINAL, level by which we pass at least two
times a day, once when we wake up and another when we
we sleep. It is a level between wakefulness and sleep, characterized by
because the body seems to be asleep, due to the sophronization,
and the mind remains awake to be trained
correctly. All the sophrological training is worked on
from this level.
And the state of consciousness that interests us in sophrology is the
sophronic state, which would be the opposite of the pathological state or of
disease. The sophronic state would be where the positive and
harmonious coexistence, where the body and mind enjoy

serenity, and of course everything that this entails enjoying

that state.
This is the purpose of sophrology training, the conquest.
progressive of this state, where health is natural. That's why
he insists so much on continuous training. The practice of the method
sofrological becomes as common as washing your face
teeth or showering. The well-being that the practice of
the method is such that even on some days we tend to be
lazy ones, we always have a point of reference to start from
again.

CHAPTER 4

THE BASE SOFRONIZATION

Before talking about the applications that it has today

sophrology and the Eastern current that inspired the doctor
Caycedo for the creation of the method, we are going to start doing
some technique to combine the experiential, which is what
it really makes me feel in my whole being what I am learning and
integrating.

When we work in sophrology, we always start with the

body, that is why it is essential to go, little by little, taking more
awareness of this, of getting to know it more each time.
So we are going to divide the body into five parts, what
we call the 5 isocay systems.

ISOCAY DIVISION OF THE BODY

System 1 - The head and the face

Free Courses at [Link]

System 2 - The neck and the nape

System 3 - the thorax, the shoulders, the arms, the hands and the
back.

System 4 - The Abdomen

System 5 - The lower part of the body (lower abdomen, buttocks,

legs, calves and feet.

The base sophronization consists of gradually relaxing deeply.

each of the bodily systems up to the level
sofroliminal, which is the place of application of the techniques
sofrological.
Before practicing base sophronization, it is advisable that
let's talk about breathing.
I believe we should all learn to breathe correctly, or
better said, relearn how to breathe correctly, as
unfortunately, we are breathing poorly at the same time as
we are growing. The stress, the anxiety, the feelings
Depressives, all this helps our breathing not to be free
and the complete story becomes a vicious circle.
The most optimal way to breathe would be the one that is done in
three times (it is actually done in just one time, but while
we learn to breathe, we will say that we will do it in three times.
Time 1 would correspond to abdominal breathing (which is the
more forgotten), time 2 would be the one we would carry out at level
pulmonary or also called thoracic and the third would be the one that
it would reach the shoulders, allowing them to rise slightly
when inhaling and automatically lowering when exhaling the air.
When performing the techniques, we will always breathe softly and
deeply, without rushing,.... The body asks to inhale after
having been emptied of air.
INSPIRATION..........we fill the abdomen, chest, and shoulders,

and emptying the entire abdomen....... we repeat it a few times.
Do you not feel better?
The more you practice, the sooner you will master your breathing and the sooner it will...
You will gain more benefits from breathing correctly. Later on.
we will talk about the benefits of correct breathing
combined with sophrological techniques.

THE TECHNIQUE

THE PROCESS OF PHENODESCRIPTION

At the end of all sophrological techniques, it is common to do the

task, but as one progresses, one becomes aware of
many more things and sometimes entire pages are written with
true literary works.

They are really intense, the sounds reach me more clearly.
Well, I start to mentally review what happened in the
session. The first system relaxes without any kind of blockage,
I can feel how my head and face rest when I go down to
second system, I feel like my neck is resisting loosening and for
supposedly, this resistance manifests itself as pain. I decide
not moving and continuing to breathe and listening to the voice of
sofrólogo who encourages me to relax more and more....... , finally
I managed to relieve the tension in my neck... how good, what a feeling of relief and
of recovery. Then I hear the voice that guides me, a voice
warm and monotonous at the same time, a way of speaking that
It inspires confidence in me and gradually seeps into my being.
I can observe that the fact of having relaxed the area of the

system, and when I hear, relax,...relaxation, I feel myself loosen up a
a little more of the third system, and I feel so good. In my
my mind conjures images of beaches and I feel that I perceive a

I become aware of the shape of the abdomen and my breathing.
It increases in intensity because of the balloon that inflates. I'm giving up.

And finally we go down to the fifth system. Every time I relax this

There are no rules for writing phenodescriptions, they are just so

SOFTROLOGY AND CAYCEDIAN SOFTROLOGY

Free Courses at [Link]

When I started the training in Sophrology, suddenly it appeared

Caycedian Sofrology. We all wondered what the
reason for the existence of two almost identical names.
Later they explained to us that when Dr. Caycedo created the
sofrology, and it began to spread especially throughout Europe
Central; Switzerland, France, etc., people began to emerge who
they said they practiced or taught sophrology, but what they did
it was another kind of things, sometimes the opposite of sophrology. The doctor
Caycedo had not legally protected sophrology.
So, when it came to protecting her, a name had to be chosen.
different, that is why they decided to call it "Caycedian Sophrology"
Caycedo method or it is also known as Relaxation
Caycedo Dynamics.
According to the ethical code that was given to us when
we finish the master program, Sophrology is defined as a
scientific school based on Existential Phenomenology
created by the neuropsychiatrist Alfonso Caycedo, with the
purpose of studying consciousness and the Values of existence
through experiential procedures that are unique to them and
originals. It would be, therefore, the science that studies consciousness in
harmony.
On the other hand, the Code defines Sophrology.
Caycediana as a method of experiential training that
used in medicine and social prophylaxis in order to carry out
what sophrological science proposes.
Caycedian sophrology is divided into two branches, the clinical branch.
and the social branch.
In the clinical branch, the method is taught by doctors.
psychologists, nurses, I mean health professionals.
The social and prevention branch, which is composed of the
professionals in the human sciences and social sofrologists

sophrological training.

As can be seen, a sophrologist would be an individual in

Today, Caycedian Sophrology is registered and protected.

This is the second sophrology technique that we teach in its entirety.
Before doing so, I would like to talk a little about her…..

CHAPTER 9

THE CAYCEDO METHOD OR RDC

At the beginning of the master's program, almost all of my classmates and I

we felt a bit confused with the new terminology of the
sofrology. We heard about the positive sophopresence (technique
which we will see later), or of the degrees of the DRC or of the
fronic techniques and many other words that were new for
we sometimes did not know what they really meant.
For my part, I was trying to explain it to my wife and she was putting
strange way, meaning that he hadn't found out; not even I,
who was already involved in that knew very well how
to manage with the vocabulary or how to explain what I
I understood halfway. Fortunately, over time everything
it was taking shape. Nowadays I see the method as one of the
more structured integral methods, as everything has meaning
in itself and the more it is practiced, the more it is understood, however,
the presence of an expert in the method is necessary for a
good regulation of this.
I love training with the RDC, the more I train the better I get.
I feel and even more I realize that it is necessary to train if we want
free ourselves from stress and be less prone to illnesses
psychosomatic. The theory of the sofrological fan helps me
a lot to place myself where I am and of course being each day
more aware of my body and its tensions also me

because every action has repercussions somewhere in the being, and when
we say every action refers to thoughts, words,
emotions, if this is done from the negative plane, we are going to
to feel with pain, sadness, anger, depression, anxiety, what is it
precisely what sophrology aims to liberate, anyway,
A person is always free to choose something else.
We all have a remote control (so to speak)
way) with which we can change channels, everything can be seen
in another way and that will depend on the state of consciousness of
each one, but it can always change. Obviously this has been
to train, but it's not that difficult because there are only two channels, to
one we will call channel P (positive) and the other we will name
canal N (negative).
Unfortunately, all of us in general emit a lot in the
Channel N and if we want things (especially our health)
we should switch to channel P, even though it sometimes seems
impossible to be able to press the change button.
Even this needs training. In the Caycedo method there is
some techniques that allow channel N access to
channel P may be gentle and last longer each time, for example, there is the
technique of soft attention and concentration on the neutral object
which is very powerful to change the chip.
The Caycedo method or Caycedo Dynamic Relaxation consists of
12 degrees and some specific phonic techniques that go

Different breathing techniques of yogic origin are practiced.

DYNAMIC RELAXATION OF CAYCEDO LEVEL 2

I don't know why, but this second degree of the DRC was my
favorite for a while, I still practice it a lot, but to the
finish the first 2 years of training, this degree was the one that
more practiced. It is about contemplation, Caycedo was inspired
Tibetan Buddhism to create the second degree of the method, the
what is considered as a experiential pedagogy of the
contemplation.
In second grade, awareness of thoughts is developed,
emotions, feelings. It is a very effective technique as it
allows being aware of both positive thoughts and
negatives and the emotional impact of these. Thanks to that
I continue to be aware of thoughts, we can
program positive thoughts and eliminate thoughts
negatives, it is not to deny that they exist, but rather that we no longer...
It's interesting to have them, it's to take absolute responsibility for my
thoughts that will allow me to control them. I believe that it is
It is convenient for us to learn that we should not be afraid of
some thoughts, because that makes them more powerful.
At first it seems difficult because we all have thousands of
thoughts, but it is completely beneficial to train the
mind in the art of contemplation.
Whenever I finish this degree, I feel very happy. Before

In the second grade, a new posture called posture appears.

(degree) does not appear. We have the position of the second degree,
sitting with their backs touching the backrest of the chair and the
isocay posture.
At the end, a small meditation on peace is done that to me
I personally love it for its simplicity and effectiveness.
But to make the most of this degree, you have to practice,
since there are times when if one is not where they need to be it is
better to leave it and continue later.
Montse Anadón was also my teacher at the high school, and she was the
the first person who taught us this technique, I still have it
recorded, it was before modifying the second degree. I love it
this tape, because Montse speaks clearly, firmly and with a lot of
warmth at the same time, it's an explosive combination that you
focus directly on the technique and abandon
any story that has nothing to do with what is happening
doing at that moment.

it meant we were already at the halfway point of the first year.

despite the mistakes we make, others relax and
they soften when we dictate the techniques. This makes us very happy.
Well, I know where one intends to go.
Before starting with the third degree techniques, we were made to
an introduction to Zen, since it is the basis on which Caycedo relied
to create the third degree of the RDC, specifically in the Zen

four. When Caycedo created sophrology, he did it with only three
degrees, the others appeared later
In the fourth grade, we train with values; in sophrology, we ...
we refer to value as a phenomenon that depends on the relationship
between the subject and the object. The conquest of these encompasses the
totality of being in both its rational and emotional planes.
They are universal values, they never go out of style.

One of the objectives of Caycedian sophrology is to

discovery and the conquest of human values - The
sophrological training will lead us to experience
experientially those values.
There are (according to Dr. Caycedo) three categories of values:
a- The fundamental values that can in turn be divided into
biological, vital, and historical

During the fourth grade training, another march is practiced.

We also try to live, while we walk, the chosen value.

THE SPECIFIC FRONTIC TECHNIQUES OF THE FIRST

CYCLE
PART A

During these first two years of the master's program, we studied and
we practice what are called specific phronic techniques,
What would be some supplementary exercises to the RDC and they are
based on Heidegger's concept of temporality.
These techniques act on:
1-The present parameter- (Presentation techniques)
2-The future parameter –(Futurization techniques)
3-The passed parameter-(preteritization techniques)
4-Totalization techniques

PRESENTATION TECHNIQUES.

We, during the master's program, learned these techniques alongside the
first degree of the RDC 1, but, of course, they can be practiced
completely independently.
We start with the BASE SOFRONIZATION, as its
As the name suggests, base will be the technique that we always use in
sofrology to be able to practice the other techniques. It is about a
relaxation starting from the first isokine system up to the
Finally, its goal is to transport us to the sofroliminal level.
In everyday life, it is correct to train this type of
relaxation, since it allows you to have a relaxed body in
any situation, the more aware we are of our
tensions, first we relax the body. Even the small ones
discomforts that were felt in the past sometimes occur
unbearable and we relaxed earlier.
It is becoming easier for me to mentally review my body and with
help with correct breathing to relax and let go.
Next, we meet SOFRO SCHULTZ, the

sophrology, exercises through which we will try to perceive the

GRADES 7 AND 8

FIRST PART

Shortly after completing the first course of

second cycle, I received a letter in which they informed me that the
the second cycle would take place at the end of September, beginning of
October of that same year.
This time it was not going to take place in Spain, but in Andorra, where
it is the main thread of Caycedian sophrology.
Of course, I sent the registration sheet to sign up for that.
course, as I have already repeated, I wanted to reach the end.

Well, the date to start came and I headed towards Andorra.

I took the bus to Andorra in Barcelona. The seats were
numbered and see where I went to sit, that next to me sat
a woman who was also going to Andorra, whom I did not know
still, I think we were the only two people who were going to
to do the training in sophrology and we had to sit together.

This woman, very nice, by the way, is called Rosa Cabello and she is
nurse and very committed to health as well. The trip is
it made us very short, as we didn't stop talking for a single moment
from the moment we left Barcelona until we arrived in Andorra.

Once in Andorra, we decided to share a taxi to get us

When I entered the room, it had barely been a few minutes since they had
they had started, they were doing a technique and everyone was
with eyes closed, listening and following Natalia who was
dictating the first technique.
Quickly and before closing my eyes, I looked around.
I could see my classmates from last year at a table. There.
They were sitting: Oscar, Cristina, Olga, and Françoise.

Once we had finished with the technique, we greeted each other and we
we realized that there were fewer people left from our
promotion, with no further comments we went out for dinner.

Rosa, the woman from the bus, introduced me to people from her
promotion, so the circle of acquaintances widened, I met
we who had already been together in grades 5 and 6
I hadn't realized that they were my colleagues.

CHAPTER 25

RADICAL CYCLE

GRADES 7 AND 8

SECOND PART

The next day, in the room, Dr. Caycedo began with the
theory and the history of sophrology. These two degrees
they continue to deepen energy at higher levels
deeper than grades 5 and 6, He talked to us about the different
tipos de energía y en qué sistema se encuentra cada uno de ellos.
Free Courses at [Link]

In the practices, you learn to direct the body's energy, to raise it.
and to download it from the system, to have more available where it is needed
and to reduce it when there is too much in any system.

Positive programming is also being worked on, which is very

interesting to face the future and the present in a way
relaxed.

There is a specific phonetic technique for each degree. Just like the
previous time, Dr. Caycedo and Natalia taught both degrees and
both techniques.
The feeling of deep peace that was experienced in the room was
sensational. I remember that there were moments when nothing, nothing
it disturbed this harmony, which is referred to in sophrology as
Isocay moment, and this is what is intended, that the moments
they become increasingly extensive, as they are moments of complete tranquility,
but not inactive, one feels totally lucid and can choose
better than thinking and doing, from calmness, with a feeling
of enormous trust. As sophrology is practiced, this
it expands, it's not that there are no problems, but that they go away
facing in a different way, with serenity, with optimism,
with confidence.
Sophrology provides us with sufficient tools to
help us get back up every time someone falls. It's like going in
bicycle, one learns by learning, no one can do it for you, you

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE THIRD CYCLE

EXISTENTIAL CYCLE

GRADES 9-10-11-12

it is the perception we have of them and the world around us.

I know that much more training is needed, because the 'old ones'
"projections" come back every other moment and one has to be
continuously monitoring to exercise their freedom and do a
better choice and perceive the present and not the past.

The specific phronic techniques of these grades are aimed at

What I just said is about positive programming in the
future, being a future in the short, medium, or long term.

Well, here we finish our master's specialized course in

techniques correctly and with great enthusiasm to do so.

and we had a great time. The next day after having
we delivered some work that we were not asked to do, we said goodbye
everyone until another occasion, promising to be constantly in
contact to not lose this friendship that had arisen between
we.

THE APPLICATIONS OF THE RDC METHOD

Sophrology is applied today at both the clinical and social levels.

Clinically, it is applied as a unique method or complementary in

medicine, psychology, physiotherapy, nursing. They will be applied
different techniques depending on the patient's illness.

At a social level, it is applied as a method of individual training.
