Practice sheet # 2 GEOMETRY MATHEMATICS

1. The quadrilateral ABCD is inscribed in a circle. The lines AB and CD meet at E, while the diagonals
AC and BD meet at F. The circumcircles of the triangles AFD and BFC meet again at H. Prove that
∠EHF = 90∘ .

2. Let ABC be a triangle with AB = AC. Let H be the orthocenter of ABC. Point E is the midpoint of
AC and point D lies on the side BC such that 3CD = BC. Prove that BE ⊥ HD.

3. Let Γ be the circumcircle of ΔABC. Let D be a point on the side BC. The tangent to Γ at A intersects
the parallel line to BA through D at point E. The segment CE intersects Γ again at F. Suppose
B, D, F, E are concyclic. Prove that AC, BF, DE are concurrent.

4. Acute-angled triangle ABC with circumcircle ω is given. Let D be the midpoint of AC, E be the foot
of altitude from A to BC, and F be the intersection point of AB and DE. Point H lies on the arc BC of
ω (the one that does not contain A ) such that ∠BHE = ∠ABC. Prove that ∠BHF = 90∘ .

5. Four points A, B, C, and D lie on a circle ω such that AB = BC = CD. The tangent line to ω at point
C intersects the tangent line to ω at point A and the line AD at points K and L. The circle ω and the
circumcircle of triangle KLA intersect again at M. Prove that MA = ML

6. Let H be the orthocenter of an acute-angled triangle ABC. The circle Γ centered at the midpoint of
BC and passing through H intersects the sideline BC at points A and A . Similarly, define the
points B , B , C , and C . Prove that six points A , A , B , B , C , C are concyclic.

7. In triangle ABC, the points M, N, K are the midpoints of BC, CA, AB respectively. Let ω and ω be
two semicircles with diameter AC and AB respectively, outside the triangle. Suppose that MK and
MN intersect ω and ω at X and Y respectively. Let the tangents at X and Y to ω and ω
respectively, intersect at Z. prove that AZ ⊥ BC.

8. Let D, E and F be points on the sides BC, CA and AB, respectively, such that BCEF is a cyclic
quadrilateral. Let P be the second intersection of the circumcircles of △ BDF and △ CDE. Prove
that A, D and P are collinear.

9. Given a semicircle with diameter AB, let C and D be points on the semicircle, such that D is
between A and C. Let P be the intersection of AD and BC. Prove that the value of AP ⋅ AD + BP ⋅ BC
doesn't depend on the choice of the points C and D.

10. On the sides AB and AC of a triangle ABC are given points P and Q, respectively, such that PQ‖BC.
Prove that the circles with diameters BQ and CP intersect on the line through A that is perpendicular
to BC.
11. Let ABC be a scalene triangle with incentre I and circumcircle ( ω ). The lines AI, BI, CI intersect
( ω ) for the second time at the points D, E, F, respectively. The lines through I parallel to the sides
BC, AC, AB intersect the lines EF, DF, DE at the points K, L, M, respectively. Prove that the points
K, L, M are collinear.

12. Let D and E be two points on the sides AB and AC, respectively, of a triangle ABC, such that
DB = BC = CE, and let F be the point of intersection of the lines CD and BE. Prove that the incenter
I of the triangle ABC, the orthocenter H of the triangle DEF and the midpoint M of the arc BAC of
the circumcircle of the triangle ABC are collinear.

13. Two circles Γ and Γ meet at two distinct points A and B. A line passing through A meets Γ and Γ
again at C and D respectively, such that A lies between C and D. The tangent at A to Γ meets Γ
again at E. Let F be a point on Γ such that F and A lie on different sides of BD, and 2∠AFC =
∠ABC. Prove that the tangent at F to Γ , and lines BD and CE are concurrent.
