preventive approach towards ensuring that
employees achieve optimum physical health as
well as mental and social health.
• Wellness programs, provide a proactive
approach to healthy living
• Often employee wellness is linked to
organisational wellness which assures an
organisation of improved work performance..
• Wellness is multi-dimensional state of well-
being, a holistic approach to life that
encompasses bodily, mental, emotional,
environmental, spiritual and community health.
• It is an intentional choice of a lifestyle
characterized by personal responsibility,
moderation, and maximum personal
enhancement of physical, mental, emotional and
spiritual health.
• An organised programme in the workplace
that is intended to assist employees and their
family members
– making voluntary behavior changes
– reduce their health and injury risks,
– improve their health consumer skills,
– enhance their individual productivity and
well-being.
Aspects of Wellnes
Emotional Wellness
Having the ability to feel and express emotions.
Manage stress, possess self-esteem and self-
acceptance.
Appropriately sharing your feelings with others.
Relevant skills include:
• Seeking and providing support
• Time and Stress management skills
• Self-acceptance
Intellectual Wellness
Striving to improve your intellect and your creative
ability.
Examples :
• taking a course or workshop,
• reading for personal enjoyment,
• seeking out persons who challenge you
intellectually

Occupational Wellness
• Preparing and making use of your skills and talents.
Finding a career that is meaningful, enjoyable and
rewarding.
Ideas include: exploring career options, creating a
vision of your future, being open to learning new skills
Physical Wellness
• Encompasses a variety of healthy behaviors
including: adequate exercise, proper nutrition,
abstaining from harmful behaviors like drug use and
alcohol abuse.
Social Wellness
• Receiving and giving support to family and
friends, enhancing diversity and becoming active
socially

Cultivating healthy relationships, sharing your
talents and skills, contributing to your community,
