AWT (Abstract Window Toolkit)

The Abstract Window Toolkit (AWT) is the original platform-independent windowing, graphics,
and user-interface widget toolkit introduced with Java. AWT provides classes for GUI components
such as buttons, text fields, labels, menus, and windows. It also handles graphics, colors, fonts,
and event handling.

Unlike Swing or JavaFX, AWT relies on the underlying operating system. That means an AWT
button looks like a real OS button, which ensures native look and feel.

Advantages of AWT:
- Easy to learn for beginners.
- Provides fast execution because of native peer components.
- Foundation for higher-level GUI libraries.

Disadvantages of AWT:
- Limited number of components.
- Platform dependence may cause inconsistent behavior.

2. Java

Java is a widely used high-level programming language created in 1995 by Sun Microsystems.
It quickly became popular because of its reliability, simplicity, and cross-platform support.
The slogan “Write Once, Run Anywhere” describes its ability to run the same code on any
operating system with a Java Virtual Machine (JVM).

Key Features of Java:

1. Object-Oriented – based on classes and objects.
2. Platform-Independent – runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS without modification.
3. Robust and Secure – strong memory management and error handling.
4. Multithreading – supports concurrent execution.
5. Distributed – supports networking and distributed computing.

Applications of Java:
- Mobile apps (Android development).
- Web apps (Spring, Hibernate).
- Desktop GUI apps (AWT, Swing, JavaFX).
- Enterprise software (banking and business systems).
- Games and simulations.
3. Java Language

The Java language is simple, object-oriented, and familiar to developers who know C/C++.
Its syntax is structured, readable, and type-safe. Programs are organized into classes and
objects that follow OOP principles.

Core Concepts of Java Language:

- Data types: int, float, double, char, boolean, String.
- Control structures: if-else, switch-case, for, while, do-while loops.
- Classes and objects with fields and methods.
- Four OOP pillars: encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism, abstraction.

Example Code:
class Student {
String name;
int age;
void displayInfo() {
[Link]("Name: " + name);
[Link]("Age: " + age);
}
}
public class Main {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Student s1 = new Student();
[Link] = "Iman";
[Link] = 20;
[Link]();
}
}

4. Tools for Java Development

To write and run Java programs, developers require specific tools.

1. JDK (Java Development Kit) – includes compiler, JRE, and libraries.

2. IDE (Integrated Development Environment) – Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA, NetBeans.
3. Text editors – Notepad++, Sublime Text, VS Code.
4. Build tools – Maven and Gradle for project automation.
5. GUI frameworks – AWT, Swing, JavaFX.

These tools help increase productivity, simplify debugging, and manage large projects easily.
5. Requirements to Run Java Programs

Developing and executing Java applications requires certain hardware and software conditions.

Hardware Requirements:
- At least 4 GB RAM (8 GB recommended).
- A dual-core processor of 2 GHz or more.
- Around 500 MB free disk space.

Software Requirements:
- Operating System: Windows, macOS, or Linux.
- JDK installed and properly configured in system PATH.
- IDE or text editor to write code.
- JVM to interpret and run bytecode.

Knowledge Requirements:
- Basic programming knowledge.
- Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming.
- Logical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

In conclusion, Java and its AWT toolkit play an important role in application development.
From simple GUIs to enterprise-level systems, Java remains one of the most trusted and
versatile languages worldwide.
