BASIC DRAWING QUESTIONS (ALL CHAPTERS)

1. To construct a regular heptagon of 45 mm sides by general method.

2. Draw a tangent to a given circle of 45mm diameter at any point outside it.

3. To construct a regular hexagon of 45mm sides, to inscribe the same equal no of circles as
that of the sides of hexagon, each circle touching one side of the hexagon and two of the
other circles.

4. Construct a conic section when the distance of its focus from directrix is 70 mm and its
eccentricity is 3/4. Name the curve.

5. The throw of ball from a fielder on a cricket ground reaches the wicket-keeper’s gloves,
following parabolic path. Maximum height achieved by the ball above the ground is 40
meters. To construct the path of the ball by rectangular method, assuming it to be
parabolic. The horizontal distance between the fielder and the wicket-keeper is 80 meters.
(Assume suitable scale)

6. A point P is 45mm below the HP and lies in the third quadrants. Its shortest distance from
the intersecting point of HP and VP is 50 mm. draw its projections and find its distance
behind the VP.

7. State the quadrants in which the following points are situated. Draw their projections and
position.
a) A point P, its front view 50 mm above XY, the top view 30mm below the front view.
b) A point Q, its projections coincide with each other 45 mm above XY.

8. A circle of 60 mm diameter rolls on outside the circumference of another circle of 180 mm


diameter without slipping. Trace the locus of a point on the circumference of the rolling
circle for one complete revolution. Name the curve.
9. To construct the following.
a) To bisect any angle
b) To trisect a right angle

10. To construct a heptagon, hexagon, pentagon and square of 45 mm sides by general method.
Draw all polygons together in one construction.

11. The major axis of an ellipse is 130 mm and the minor axis 80mm long. Find the distance
between their focus points and construct an ellipse by Arcs of circle method.

12. A circle of 60 mm diameter rolls on another circle of 180 mm diameter with internal contact
without slipping. Trace the locus of a point on the circumference of the rolling circle for one
complete revolution. Name the curve.

13. The throw of ball from a fielder on a cricket ground reaches the wicket-keeper’s gloves,
following parabolic path. Maximum height achieved by the ball above the ground is 45
meters and it travels horizontal distance of 75 meters. To construct the path of the ball by
tangent method, assuming it to be parabolic. (Assume suitable scale)

14. A point P is in the HP and 20 mm in front of the VP. Another point Q is also in the HP and
behind VP. The distance between their end projectors is 60mm. draw its projections if the
line joining P and Q makes an angle of 60ᵒ with reference line. Also find the position of
point Q.

15. A point 40mm above XY is the plan view of three points A, B and C. The point A is 20mm
above, the point B is 30 mm below and C in the HP. Draw the projections of A,B and C.
16. A line AB measuring 70 mm has its end A 15mm in front of VP and 20mm above HP and the
other end B 60mm in front of VP and 50mm above the HP. Draw the projections of the line
and find the inclinations of the line with both the reference planes.

17. PQRS is a rhombus having diagonal PR= 60mm and QS = 40mm and they are perpendicular
to each other. The plane of the rhombus is inclined with HP such that its top view appears
to be square. Draw its projections and determine inclination of the plane with the HP.

18. A composite plate of negligible thickness is made of a rectangle 60mm x 40mm, and a semi-
circle on its longer side. Draw its projections when the longer side is parallel to the HP and
inclined at 45ᵒ to the VP, the surface of the plate making 30ᵒ angle with HP.

19. Draw the projections of a cylinder 50mm diameter and axis 75mm long, lying on the ground
with its axis inclined at 30ᵒ to the VP and parallel to the ground.

20. A pentagonal pyramid, base 30mm side and axis 70mm long, has one of its slant edges in the
HP and inclined at 30ᵒ to the VP. Draw the projections of the solid when the apex is towards
the observer.

21. A hexagonal prism of 25 mm sides and axis 80 mm long is resting on its base on the HP with
two edges of the base are parallel to the VP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to the

50mm base. Draw its sectional top view, front view and true shape of the section.

24. A line AB has its end A 20 mm above HP and 30 mm in front of VP. The other end B is 60 mm
above HP and 45 mm in front of VP. The distance between end projectors is 70 mm. Draw its
projections. Determine the true length and apparent inclinations.

determine inclination of the plane.
