2. Candidate must meet Minimum age requirements which is 21 years, and the maximum age is
32 years.
Whereas relaxation is provided for upper age limit for the OBC category upto 3 yrs
for SC/ST Category: up to 5 years.

are in their final year of graduation are also eligible to apply, provided they can produce proof of
their degree during the Mains examination.

There are unlimited attempts for SC and ST category until the age limit is reached.

EXAM PATTERN -----------ANSHUMAN


The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts several exams, with the Civil Services
Examination (CSE) being the most prominent. The exam pattern consists of three stages:
Preliminary Examination (Prelims)
 Format: Objective type (multiple-choice questions)
 Number of Papers: Two papers
o General Studies Paper I: Covers current events, history, geography, polity,
economy, environment, and general science.
o General Studies Paper II (CSAT): Tests comprehension, interpersonal skills, logical
reasoning, analytical ability, decision-making, and basic numeracy. This paper is
qualifying in nature and requires a minimum of 33% to qualify for the Mains.
 Total Marks: 400 marks (200 marks for each paper)
 Duration: 2 hours for each paper
 Negative Marking: 1/3 of the marks assigned to a question for incorrect answers.
2. Mains Examination
 Format: Descriptive type
 Number of Papers: Nine papers
o Paper A: Indian Language (qualifying)
o Paper B: English (qualifying)
o Paper I: Essay
o Paper II: General Studies I (Indian Heritage and Culture, History, and Geography
of the World and Society)
o Paper III: General Studies II (Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice, and

o Paper V: General Studies IV (Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude)
o Paper VI & VII: Optional Subject papers (two papers from a subject chosen by
the candidate)
 Total Marks: 1750 marks
 Duration: 3 hours for each paper
 Qualifying Nature: The language papers (A and B) are qualifying, but marks obtained in
other papers are counted for ranking.
3. Personality Test (Interview)------------------RANVEER
 Marks: 275 marks
 This stage assesses the candidate's personality, suitability for a career in public service,
and overall competence.
 The interview panel consists of members who evaluate various aspects such as

Final Selection--------------------------RANVEER
 The final ranking is based on the total marks obtained in the Mains and the Personality
Test. The marks from the Prelims are not considered in the final merit list but are
essential for qualifying for the Mains.
