5-Day Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Training Program
Course Objective
This program is designed to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of Life
Cycle Assessment (LCA), including its principles, methodologies, tools, and applications. By the
end of the program, participants will be able to perform basic and advanced LCAs and integrate
sustainability considerations into decision-making processes.
Day 1: Fundamentals of Life Cycle Assessment
Objective: Introduce participants to the core concepts and frameworks of LCA.
• Topics Covered:
o Overview of LCA and its importance
o The four phases of LCA: Goal and scope definition, inventory analysis, impact
assessment, interpretation
o Key standards and guidelines: ISO 14040 and ISO 14044
o History and evolution of LCA
o Industries Where LCA has Biggest Impact ( Manufacturing, agriculture and other
)
• Activities:
o Case study discussion: Real-world LCA applications
o Group activity: Defining goals and scope for an LCA project
• Outcome: Participants will understand the basics of LCA and its foundational
framework.

o Compare LCI databases ( Eg Ecoinvent vs Gabi) to guide tool selection
o Data Visualization example to interpreting LCI results

o Quiz: Key concepts in LCI
• Outcome: Participants will be able to collect and organize life cycle data effectively.

o Understanding normalization, weighting, and interpretation
