Course Title: Basic Microeconomics
Course Code: BAFM ###
Credit Units: 3 units (3 hours lecture/week)
Prerequisites: None
Course Description:
This course introduces the principles of microeconomics, focusing on how individuals and firms make decisions to allocate limited resources. It
covers supply and demand analysis, market equilibrium, elasticity, consumer behavior, production and cost theory, market structures, and the
role of government in the economy. Special emphasis is placed on applying microeconomic concepts to financial management, investment
decisions, and market analysis.
Course Outcomes (COs)
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
1. Explain fundamental microeconomic concepts and their application in financial decision-making.
2. Analyze supply and demand interactions and determine market equilibrium.
3. Apply elasticity concepts to assess the responsiveness of markets to changes in prices and incomes.
4. Evaluate production, costs, and profit-maximizing decisions in various market structures.
5. Assess the impact of government interventions such as price controls, taxes, and subsidies.
6. Use microeconomic reasoning in evaluating business and financial strategies.
