Data Handling in Mathematics Class VIII

The document outlines key concepts in data handling for Class VIII Mathematics, including organizing data, frequency, and the use of pie charts to represent data visually. It explains the calculation of fractions, central angles, and percentages in pie charts, as well as the basics of probability and random experiments. Additionally, it provides examples and exercises related to population distribution and probability calculations.

Key Points
 Organising Data
• The collected information is called data.
• Data is usually available as raw data or unorganized data.
• Raw data: Any data that has been collected but has not processed or organized for further use.
• Frequency: The number of times something happens in a particular period of time is called
frequency.
 Circle/Pie Chart
• A circle graph also known as a pie chart, is a circular diagram used to represent data.
• Each sector of a circle represents a proportion of the total and the size of each sector is
determined by the quantity it represents.
• The combination of the different components or sectors make a full circle that means the total
of all the given is 360°

• Fraction of a sector =

 Chance and Probability

• Probability: Probability is a numerical measure likelihood that a specific event will occur.
• Outcome: A possible result of a probability experiment.
• Equally Likely: When all outcomes of an event have the same chance of occurring.
• Random Experiment: An experiment or process for which the outcome cannot be predicted
with certainty

Q2. The probability of spinning an even number is 2. The probability of spinning a prime number is 6.
What is the missing number on the spinner?

Solution : The missing number on the spinner = 2
