1. Prove that there are infinitely many primes of the form 4n+3.
2. Without actual division, determine whether (2^4 * 3^2) / (5^2 * 7) will have a terminating decimal
expansion. Justify.
3. If one zero of 6x^2 - 7x - 3 is -1/3, find the other zero and verify relation between zeros and
coefficients.
4. Solve: If zeros of ax^2 + bx + c are in ratio 3:2, prove that 9a^2 - 25bc = 0.
5. A motorboat goes 20 km downstream in 2 hours and the same distance upstream in 5 hours.
Find speed of boat in still water and stream.
6. Solve graphically: x+y=5, 2x-y=4. Also find area of triangle formed with coordinate axes.
7. A train travels 360 km at a uniform speed. If speed is increased by 5 km/h, it takes 48 min less.
Find speed of train.
8. Solve for x: 1/(x+4) + 1/(x+5) = 1/6.
9. If m times the m-th term of an AP equals n times the n-th term, prove that the (m+n)-th term is 0.
10. A sum of ■700 is to be given in 50 cash prizes, each ■20 less than the preceding one. Find
maximum and minimum prize.
11. Prove: In a triangle, angle bisector divides opposite side in the ratio of other two sides.
12. A tree is broken by the wind. The top touches the ground 15 m away from the base. If tree was
25 m high, find the height at which it broke.
13. Find coordinates of the point which divides line joining (7, –6) and (3, 4) in ratio 3:1.
14. Show that points (7, 10), (–2, 5), (3, –4), (12, 1) are vertices of a parallelogram.
15. If sec θ + tan θ = p, prove that sec θ = (p^2+1)/(2p).
16. Prove: (cot A – cos A)/(cot A + cos A) = tan^2 (A/2).
17. The angle of elevation of a cloud from a point 200 m above lake is 30°. Angle of depression of
its reflection is 60°. Find height of cloud above lake.
18. A man on a cliff observes a boat at an angle of depression of 30°. After 10 minutes, angle
becomes 60°. If boat sails at 2 km/min, find height of cliff.
19. From a point 10 cm away from a circle of radius 6 cm, draw tangents. Find their length.
20. Prove: The angle between tangent and chord at point of contact is equal to angle in alternate
segment.
21. Construct a triangle similar to given triangle with scale factor 3/2.
22. Construct a pair of tangents to a circle of radius 3 cm which are inclined at 120°.
23. Find area of major segment of circle of radius 35 cm if angle of minor segment is 90°.
24. A square park has side 14 m. Four semicircles are drawn with sides as diameters, inside the
park. Find area left unshaded.
25. A cone of height 24 cm and base diameter 14 cm is melted and recast into small spherical balls
each of radius 1.5 cm. Find number of balls.
26. A well of inner diameter 14 m is dug 10 m deep. Earth taken out is spread evenly to form
embankment 5 m wide around the well. Find height of embankment.
27. The daily wages of 100 workers are given: (Class: 0–50, 50–100, 100–150, 150–200, 200–250,
250–300; Frequencies: 5, 10, 20, 30, 20, 15). Draw an ogive and find the median.
28. The marks obtained by 100 students are: (Class: 0–10, 10–20, 20–30, 30–40, 40–50;
Frequencies: 10, 20, 35, 25, 10). Find the mode using histogram.
29. A bag contains 3 white, 4 red, 5 black balls. A ball is drawn. Find probability it is: (i) white or
black, (ii) neither white nor black, (iii) not red.
30. A letter is chosen at random from word STATISTICS. Find probability that it is: (i) vowel, (ii)
consonant, (iii) S.
