THE SIMPLE PENDULUM

Aim: (i) To verify the relation between period and length of a simple
pendulum
(ii)To find the acceleration due to gravity at the place
Apparatus: Simple Pendulum, stop watch, metre scale etc
Principle: For small oscillation of a simple pendulum
= a constant

where - length of the pendulum

T- period of the pendulum
The acceleration due to gravity is given by
g=4n'!
[Link] T²
PROCEDURE

The length of the pendulum is first adjusted to be 0.50 m (length of

distance between point of suspension and centre of bob). Time for pendulum is the
20 oscillations are found using
stop clock. Time for one oscillation gives time
period(T) of oscillation.
Experiment is repeated for different lengths (0.60m T2 is determined.
,0.70m, 0.80m etc).
Result:
Acceleration due to gravity at the place by calculation = m/s?
(Note: The length of the pendulum is the distance
between point of suspension and centre of the bob)
