What’s a theme?
A theme in literature is different than the theme of a party. A literary theme is
the underlying message of a story, (or a poem or a book or even a nonfiction piece, like
a biography.) It tells you something the author probably believes is a truth about life or
the human experience. Most stories have several themes. Since they are not directly
stated in the story, you have to figure them out and say them in your own words.
