LESSON PLAN (RPP)
School: [EDU GLOBAL SCHOOL]
Subject: Mathematics
Grade/Semester: 2 / 2
Main Topic: Two-Dimensional (2D) Shapes (Square, Rectangle, Triangle,
Circle)
Time Allocation: 2 x 35 minutes (1 meeting)
A. Learning Objectives By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Identify common two-dimensional shapes (square, rectangle, triangle, circle) by name.
2. Describe simple properties of common 2D shapes (e.g., number of sides, corners/vertices).
3. Classify objects in the surroundings based on their 2D shape.
4. Draw basic 2D shapes.
B. Learning Material
• Names of 2D shapes: Square, Rectangle, Triangle, Circle.
• Properties of shapes:
o Square: 4 equal sides, 4 corners (vertices).
o Rectangle: 4 sides (opposite sides are equal), 4 corners (vertices).
o Triangle: 3 sides, 3 corners (vertices).
o Circle: Round shape, no straight sides, no corners.
• Examples of real-world objects that resemble these shapes (e.g., window, door, pizza slice,
clock).
C. Learning Method
• Approach: Scientific Approach (Observing, Questioning, Exploring, Associating,
Communicating)
• Methods: Discussion, Question and Answer, Group Work, Hands-on Activity, Demonstration
D. Learning Media/Tools
• Real-world objects with different 2D shapes (book, board, clock, ball, tile, etc.).
• Shape cutouts (made of paper, cardboard, or plastic).
• Whiteboard/Markers or Projector/Screen.
• Worksheets for drawing and identifying shapes.
E. Learning Resources
• Mathematics Textbook for Grade 2 (Buku Siswa Matematika Kelas 2).
• Teacher's Guidebook (Buku Guru Matematika Kelas 2).
• Educational videos or online resources about 2D shapes (if available).
• Objects from the classroom and school environment.
F. Learning Activities
Time
Stage Activities
Allocation
1. Greeting, prayer, and checking student attendance.
2. Apperception: Show some objects in the classroom (e.g., window,
clock) and ask students about their shapes. Link to prior knowledge or
observations.
10 minutes
3. Motivation: Explain that learning about shapes helps us understand the
Introduction world around us and build things. State the importance of recognizing
shapes.
4. Communicate the learning objectives for the day's lesson.
1. Observing/Questioning: Teacher introduces the topic of 2D shapes.
Show flashcards or pictures of a square, rectangle, triangle, and circle.
Ask students what they see and if they know the names of these shapes.
2. Exploring: The teacher explains the name of each shape clearly.
Discuss the simple properties of each shape (number of sides, number of
corners). Use shape cutouts to demonstrate.
3. Associating: Show real-world objects and ask students to identify
which shape they resemble. Compare the object's shape to the
flashcard/cutout shape. Ask questions like, "Does this clock look like a
Core circle or a square?" 50 minutes
Activities
4. Hands-on Practice/Group Work:
* Divide students into small
groups.
* Provide each group with a collection of shape cutouts or
pictures of objects.
Ask groups to sort the shapes/objects based on their type (all squares
together, all triangles together, etc.).
Alternatively, provide worksheets where students need to draw the
shapes, name them, or count sides/corners.
5. Teacher circulates to observe, guide, and provide assistance to
students as needed. Encourage students to describe why an object is a
certain shape (based on its properties).
1. Review: Ask students to recall the names of the shapes learned and
their basic properties. Ask students to point out objects in the classroom
that match the shapes.
2. Conclusion: Summarize the main points of the lesson about identifying
and classifying 2D shapes.
Closing 10 minutes
3. Reflection: Ask students what they enjoyed most about the lesson or
what was challenging.
4. Assign a brief homework assignment (e.g., find and draw 3 objects at
home that are squares, rectangles, triangles, or circles).
5. Closing prayer and greeting.
G. Learning Assessment
1. Assessment Techniques:
• Observation (during group work and class discussion)
• Written Test (Worksheet)
• Performance (Identifying shapes of objects)
2. Assessment Instruments:
• Observation Sheet: Checklist for participation, ability to identify shapes verbally,
participation in sorting activity.
• Worksheet:
o Draw a square, a rectangle, a triangle, and a circle.
o Write the name below each drawn shape.
o Look at the pictures of objects. Circle the object that is a circle, draw a square
around the object that is a square, etc.
o Fill in the blanks: A triangle has ______ sides and ______ corners.
• Performance Task: Show students various objects (e.g., a book, a ruler, a piece of pizza, a
coin) and ask them to name the shape of each object.
