UV Visible Microcontroller Based Spectrophotometer
Abstract:

This project presents the Phase-I development of a UV-Visible Microcontroller-

Based Spectrophotometer, designed and built by undergraduate students in the
Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. The primary aim
is to create a cost-effective, compact spectrophotometer that leverages a
microcontroller for precise measurement and analysis of light absorption in the
ultraviolet and visible ranges. The instrument features an LED-based light source,
a photodiode sensor, and high-precision analog circuitry to detect and quantify
transmitted light intensity. The microcontroller converts analog signals into
digital data and calculates absorbance values using the Beer-Lambert law, with
results displayed on an integrated LCD. This modular design not only enhances
accuracy and reliability but also supports future upgrades such as data logging
and expanded wavelength selection, making the device highly adaptable for
educational and laboratory applications.

The spectrophotometer system is built around a microcontroller that automates

the measurement of light absorbance across the UV and visible regions. The
instrument utilizes an LED-based light source, photodiode sensor, and precision
analog circuitry for detecting transmitted light intensity. The microcontroller
processes analog signals, converts them to digital data, and calculates absorbance
values according to the Beer-Lambert law. Results are displayed on an integrated
LCD, and the modular design allows for future upgrades such as data logging or
expanded wavelength selection, making the device both versatile and suitable for
educational and laboratory environments.
