Mathematics Internal Assessment

Term-End I (2025-26)
Class XII

Topic: Inverse Trigonometric Functions

Objectives
1. To understand the definition, domain, and range of inverse trigonometric functions.
2. To analyze their graphs and properties.
3. To verify the identity sin■¹x + cos■¹x = π/2 for different values of x.

Graphs of y = sin■¹x and y = cos■¹x

Figure: Graphs of y = sin■¹x and y = cos■¹x

Domain and Range

- Domain of y = sin■¹x : [-1, 1]
- Range of y = sin■¹x : [-π/2, π/2]

- Domain of y = cos■¹x : [-1, 1]

- Range of y = cos■¹x : [0, π]

Verification of Identity: sin■¹x + cos■¹x = π/2

At x = 0, sin■¹(0) = 0.00, cos■¹(0) = 1.57, Sum = 1.57 ≈ π/2
At x = 0.5, sin■¹(0.5) = 0.52, cos■¹(0.5) = 1.05, Sum = 1.57 ≈ π/2
At x = 1, sin■¹(1) = 1.57, cos■¹(1) = 0.00, Sum = 1.57 ≈ π/2
Conclusion and Interpretation
The graphs of y = sin■¹x and y = cos■¹x help in understanding their behavior, domain, and range.
The identity sin■¹x + cos■¹x = π/2 is verified for different values of x, proving its correctness.
Technology tools like Desmos and GeoGebra make the visualization of such concepts more
intuitive and clear.
