Section – A (1 Mark Each)
1. Find the decimal expansion of 17/8. State whether it is terminating or non-terminating.
2. If one zero of the polynomial p(x) = 2x^2 + 5x + k is -3/2, find the value of k.
3. Write the coordinates of the point which divides the line segment joining (4, –3) and (8,
5) in the ratio 1 : 3.
4. Solve: 2x + 3y = 12, x = 2y.
5. State Euclid’s fifth postulate in your own words.
6. In ∆ABC, if ∠A = 70° and ∠B = 50°, find ∠C and also the measure of exterior angle at
C.
7. If the sides of a triangle are 13 cm, 14 cm and 15 cm, find its area.
Section – B (2 Marks Each)
1. Without actual division, show that the decimal expansion of 7/16 will terminate.
2. Find a quadratic polynomial whose zeros are 3/2 and -2/3.
3. Plot the points (1, 2), (2, –3), (3, 4) and (–1, –4) on the Cartesian plane. Do these points
lie on a straight line? Justify.
4. The sum of two numbers is 27. One is three times the other. Form the pair of linear
equations and solve graphically.
5. In a ∆XYZ, prove that the sum of the three angles is 180° using Euclid’s postulates.
6. Two supplementary angles are in the ratio 7 : 2. Find the angles.
Section – C (3 Marks Each)
1. Show that √7 + √5 is an irrational number.
2. A motor boat, whose speed is 18 km/h in still water, takes 1 hour more to go 24 km
upstream than to return downstream to the same spot. Find the speed of the stream.
3. Draw the graph of the linear equations x + y = 6 and x – y = 2. Find the coordinates of
the point of intersection.
4. In the adjoining figure, AB ■ CD, ∠APQ = 50° and ∠PQR = 40°. Find ∠x and ∠y.
5. Find the area of a triangular field whose sides are 120 m, 80 m and 50 m. Find also its
altitude to the longest side.
Section – D (4 Marks Each)
1. If α and β are the zeros of the polynomial p(x) = 6x^2 – 7x – 3, verify the relationship
between the zeros and the coefficients.
2. The sum of the digits of a two-digit number is 9. If 9 is added to the number, the digits
interchange their places. Find the number.
3. In the given figure, a transversal intersects two parallel lines. Prove that the alternate
interior angles are equal.
4. The sides of a triangular park are 15 m, 14 m and 13 m. A gardener wants to divide it
into two equal parts by a straight path starting from a vertex to the opposite side. Find the
length of the path.
Section – E (6 Marks Each)
1. The following table shows the marks obtained by 40 students of a class in a test:
Marks: 0–10 | 10–20 | 20–30 | 30–40 | 40–50 | 50–60
No. of Students: 3 | 5 | 9 | 12 | 8 | 3
Draw a histogram and find the mode of the data graphically.
2. A triangular plot of land has sides measuring 120 m, 80 m and 50 m. A farmer wants to
dig a well in the plot which can be covered exactly by a circular boundary touching all the
sides of the triangular plot. Find the radius of the well and also the area left in the plot after
digging the well.
