Directions: Using the PowerPoint notes, write definitions in your OWN words and turn in. You will also use these to help you
study for the quiz and certification test! Make sure that your definitions are formatted differently.
Objective: 3.01: Use layers to manage design elements.
Layers: Think of layers like clear sheets stacked on top of each other - you can put different parts of
your design on each sheet.
Layer Groups: Folders that hold multiple layers together so you can organize and control them at the
same time.
Layers Panel: The window that shows all your layers and lets you control them (find it under Window
> Layers).
Merging & Grouping Layers: Combining layers into one layer or putting them in folders to keep things
organized.
Sublayers: Individual objects or text that live inside a main layer, like items in a folder.
Locking Layers: Putting a "lock" on a layer so you can't accidentally move or change it.
Hierarchy: The way layers are organized with some layers being "parents" and others being "children"
underneath them.
Stacking Order: Which layers appear in front of or behind others - layers at the top of the list appear
in front.
Selecting Layers: Clicking on a layer to make it active so you can work on it.
Targeting Objects: Choosing specific items within a layer to edit just those pieces.
Modifying Layer Visibility: Turning layers on or off using the eye icon - like making them invisible
without deleting them.
Modifying Layer Printability: Choosing which layers will actually print out when you print your
document.
Objective: 3.02: Manage and modify pages.
Creating Pages: Making new document pages by choosing the size, margins, and layout you want.
Adding & Deleting Pages: Putting in new pages or removing pages you don't need anymore.
Master Pages: Template pages with common elements like headers and page numbers that copy to
other pages automatically.
Facing Pages: Setting up your document so pages appear side-by-side like in an open book.
Spreads: Two or more pages that are designed to work together as one unit.
Editing & Customizing Pages: Changing things like page size, margins, and which master page to
use.
Selecting Pages: Clicking on page thumbnails to choose which page you want to work on.
Rearranging Pages: Moving pages to different spots in your document by dragging them around.
Page
Settings: The basic setup of your document like page size, margins, and orientation.
Linking & Unlinking Master Pages: Connecting template pages to regular pages, or disconnecting
them to make custom changes.
