Del Mundo HPC 3- FUNDAMENTALS IN LODGING OPERATIONS
BSHM-1
1. Why am I taking Hospitality Management?
I am pursuing Hospitality Management because I am passionate about providing exceptional
service and creating memorable experiences for guests. The hospitality industry offers a dynamic and
diverse environment where every day presents new challenges and opportunities to make a positive
impact on others. I am drawn to this field because it allows me to combine my interpersonal skills,
creativity, and problem-solving abilities to ensure that customers have a seamless and enjoyable
experience. Additionally, the hospitality industry is global, and by studying hospitality management, I
can explore various cultures and travel, which aligns with my personal interests. Ultimately, I want to
develop the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute to an industry that thrives on customer
satisfaction and excellence.
2. Research about other skills needed in order to fit into the Lodging Industry and explain each
of them.
2.1. Communication Skills
Effective communication is crucial in the lodging industry. It involves interacting clearly and
courteously with guests, staff, and other stakeholders. Good communication helps in understanding
guest needs, providing accurate information, and resolving issues promptly. For example, a hotel front
desk clerk needs to clearly explain check-in procedures and handle any special requests or complaints
professionally.
2.2. Problem-Solving Skills
The ability to quickly and effectively address unexpected issues is essential in lodging. This
includes managing overbookings, handling guest complaints, or addressing maintenance problems.
For instance, if a guest finds their room is not ready upon arrival, a staff member with strong problem-
solving skills would find a solution quickly, such as offering an upgrade or an alternative room, to
ensure guest satisfaction.
3. Describe the things that you think or expect to encounter while working in the Hospitality
Industry.
While working in the Hospitality Industry, I expect to encounter a variety of experiences that
will test my problem-solving abilities, customer service skills, and adaptability. One of the primary
things I anticipate is interacting with a diverse range of guests from different cultures, backgrounds,
and personalities. Each guest will have unique needs and expectations, which will require me to be
attentive, empathetic, and resourceful. I also expect to encounter high-pressure situations, such as
managing peak seasons, handling last-minute reservations, or resolving guest complaints. These
experiences will challenge me to stay composed, prioritize tasks efficiently, and deliver excellent
service even under stress. Additionally, I foresee working collaboratively with a team of
professionals, where strong communication and teamwork will be essential to ensure smooth
operations and achieve the organization's goals. Overall, I expect my journey in the hospitality
industry to be both rewarding and demanding, offering opportunities for personal and professional
growth.
