And its types
INTRODUCTION:
The Subjunctive Mood is used to express situations that are not certain or not real, such as
wishes, hypotheticals, demands, suggestions, or possibilities.
It does not always follow normal subject-verb agreement rules.
Types of subjunctive :
1. Subjunctive of Wish
Explanation: Jab hum apni koi khwahish ya aesi cheez jo asal mein sach na ho express karte
hain, to subjunctive use hota hai.

Rule: “Wish” ke baad verb ki form change hoti hai — aksar were use hota hai sab subjects ke
liye.
Example:
1.I wish I were a bird. (asal mein main parinda nahi hoon)

2. Subjunctive of Hypothetical / Unreal Condition
Explanation: Jab baat guman ya kalpana par ho, ya “agar yeh hota to aisa hota” wali soorat, to
subjunctive lagta hai.
Rule: “If” clauses mein unreal situations ke liye use hota hai.
Example:
[Link] I were the president, I would help the poor.
[Link] he were here, we could start the party.
3. Subjunctive of Suggestion / Demand / Recommendation
Explanation: Jab koi hukm, tajwez, ya zarurat batayi ja rahi ho, to verb apni base form mein
aata hai.
Rule: Verbs jaise suggest, recommend, demand, insist ke baad subjunctive use hota hai.

Example:
[Link] teacher suggested that he study harder.
[Link] demanded that the report be ready tomorrow.
4. Subjunctive of Necessity / Importance
Explanation: Jab koi kaam bohot zaruri ho, to subjunctive use hota hai.
Rule: Expressions jaise It is important that…, It is necessary that… ke baad base form use hoti
hai.
Example:
[Link] is important that she be on time.
[Link] is necessary that every student submit homework.
