EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report is taken into consideration the Accounting Information System at Shell
Gas LPG, which is a part of Shell Pakistan Limited.

Shell is a known international brand, which deals in oils, automotive lubricants,

LPG etc. But Shell Gas LPG, a part of Shell Pakistan deals specifically in LPG or
Liquid Petroleum Gas.

Shell Gas LPG, since 10 years has been using an Accounting IS system, which
was developed by local vendors. This system consisted of 3 Modules namely,
Account Payables, Account Receivables and General Ledger.

4
There were some consistent problems faced by the end users of this system; like
delayed retrieval, inaccurate figures and retrieval of transactions and accounts
only on month end, which was incurring a lot of company’s valuable time and
implicit costs.

Then, Shell Gas LPG planned on switching to the JD Edwards Accounting System,
which is already in use by its parent company, Shell Pakistan Limited. With this
new system which will be used by Shell Gas LPG in a week’s time, a lost of time
efficiency will be attained

In addition to this, the new JD Edwards is user friendly and helps in quick retrieval
and updating, like online software. This will greatly enhance the speed of
transactions and would minimize time loss.

Unlike the old system, JD Edwards uses 5 Modules viz. Account Receivables,
Account Payables, General Ledger, Fixed Assets, and Logistics. This new system,
which provide information to the end-users according to their needs and
requirement that is information will be tailored to the need of each end user. This
will help in managing information better and getting only what is required.

Shell Gas LPG went through the phases of Systems Development Life Cycle for
this new system according to which this system is economically feasible and more
convenient. They had an option of another system called SUN but they chose JD
Edwards over SUN as it (JD Edwards) is already being used by Shell Pakistan
Limited, so they will just need to “hook” on to the new system so start operations.
On the other hand, SUN needed to be started from scratch.

After analyzing the comparative benefits of this system through proper procedures,
Shell Gas LPG has decided to employ this system in a week’s time.
