DISSCUSION AND ANALYSIS

ECONOMIC IMPACT

After Botswana gained independence in 1966 the country was very poor and had
very resource to rely on . however the discovery of diamonds in orapa 1967 helped
change the country ‘s future mining quickly became of the most parts of Botswana ‘s
economy .Before this most people depend on farming and cattle ,but these did not
bring in a lot of money

The mining industry helped grow Botswana’s economy in many ways first it
contributed a lot to the nation income for many year mining made up a portion of
Botswana’s GDP most of this income came from diamonds exports. Botswana
became known as one of the leading products of diamonds in the world This helped
the country earn money from out side markets .another impact was on government.
The government earns from debswana has been used to build roads ,schools clinics
and provide free education and health care to citizens This made Botswana different
from many other African countries that did not manage their resources well. Mining
also helped create jobs especially for those working in mines and related industries
like construction transport and security , while not everyone work directly in mining ,
the sector has helped support small business and conductors .
