Phase A Achievements
In the independent curriculum, it refers to the competencies that are expected to be achieved by
students in elementary school grades 1 and 2. In this phase, students begin to know the basic
concepts of mathematics, especially regarding addition, subtraction and its application. The
following are the main achievements in phase A for mathematics
- Addition and subtraction (performing addition and subtraction operations with numbers up to
100)
- Solve simple problems involving addition and subtraction such as word problems.
-Application in life (using basic mathematical concepts to solve everyday problems, such as
calculating money, time, or the number of objects.)
This achievement aims to build a strong basic understanding for children, so that they are ready
to move on to the next phase with more complex concepts.
B. Pancasila Student Profile
1. Independent Dimension
Element: Self-Regulation
Sub elements: Confident, tough, and adaptiveEnd of Phase A: Persisting with the task when
faced with challenges and trying to adjust the strategy when previous efforts were unsuccessful.
2. Critical Reasoning Dimensions Elements of obtaining and processing information and ideas
Sub element Asking questions
End of Phase A: Asking questions to identify a problem and confirm understanding of a problem
regarding oneself and the surrounding environment.
Addition, subtraction and introduction to numbers 1-10 in English
A. Definition of addition
Addition is one of the basic operations in mathematics that is used to combine two or more
numbers into one total value. This operation involves adding values together called summation to
produce a result called sum.
Simple example:
2+3 = 5
This means that if you combine the number 2 with the number 3, the result is 5.
Addition can also be applied to various types of numbers. Such as whole numbers, decimal
fractions, and others. This concept is often used in everyday life, for example when calculating
the total price of goods for a number of objects.
B. Definition of addition
Subtraction is one of the basic operations in mathematics that is used to calculate the difference
between two numbers. This operation is carried out by subtracting the second number
(subtraction) from the first number (minued) to produce a result called the difference.
Simple example:
7-3 = 4
This means that if you subtract the number 3 from the number 7, the result is 4.
Subtraction is used in a variety of everyday situations, such as calculating remaining money,
distance or the number of items taken from the total.
C. Cardinal Numbers
Cardinal numbers are numbers used to describe the amount of something in whole numbers.
Examples of cardinal numbers include 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on. Well, cardinal numbers consist of
basic numbers (unit numbers), tens, tens, hundreds, thousands, millions, and so on.
We will learn how to read and write cardinal numbers from ones to millions first, okay...
a. Basic Numbers
We can also call basic numbers unit numbers. Basic numbers start from 0 to 10. To write basic
numbers in English, you can see the picture below.
H. Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Assessment Plan
* Initial Assessment:
▪ Objective: Measure students' initial knowledge about addition, subtraction and recognition of
numbers 1-10 in English
Activity:
▪ ask students to subtract several numbers as in the example below.
▪ Example Question: "if the son has 5 candies and the son divides the 2 candies among his
friends, how many candies will the son have left over."
• Final Assessment:
Individual Tasks:
▪ Objective: Assess the achievement of learning objectives after the activity.
▪ Activities:
▪ Have students add some numbers and subtract some numbers.
▪ Example Question: "If Ani has 5 apples, then mother adds 2 more apples, how many apples
does Ani have?"
