The ideas and concepts of the study are anchored on the theory of Hackman and Oldman.

“Job Characteristics
Model’’. The theory is based on the study of the concept of job satisfaction with its 4 core job characteristic
dimensions. that can be measured and helps identify the competencies of barangay health workers.

These core dimensions are listed below: 1. Skill variety2.) Task identity 3.) Task Significance 4.) Autonomy

Barangay health workers (BHWs) are responsible for delivering healthcare services that effectively address the
health requirements of the residents within their respective barangays. They provide incentives for individuals
to adopt a lifestyle that promotes cleanliness and good health. The acquisition of core skills, the application of
knowledge, and the cultivation of a positive attitude are vital for these Behavioral Health Workers (BHWs) to
successfully and proficiently carry out their duties.

According to Hackman and Oldham, the incorporation of fundamental job qualities into the design of jobs is
expected to enhance employees' levels of job satisfaction. This model concentrates on analyzing the job role’s
individual task designs in greater detail than the job as a whole. The skills and knowledge of BHWs will
correlate to their competencies on their job as heath care provider.

The first domain relates to the variety of skills and capacity to render service that should be possessed by a
barangay health worker. To provide service to the clients, a set of skills should be the basis to acquire
satisfaction and outcomes.

Barangay Health Workers often have a clear understanding of their tasks, including assessing patient’s
condition, diagnosing diseases, providing medical advice, and dispensing medicine, among others. Identifying
the task, and responsibilities of their work will determine work motivation and good performance.

The third domain assert the important or significance of a task that a barangay health worker in deliverance of
care. This can be used to enhance employee work satisfaction and overall performance. Because, this will be a
crucial part of barangay health workers dedication to work and help improve the health and wellbeing of a
community.

The fourth domain attributes to the freedom of authority and control over the outcome of the situation. This can
be used to address satisfaction of their role as health care providers and will able to attain responsibility in
terms of service with pride in their job and importance of their role.
