PART 1
1. When is the project estimated to be completed? How long will the project take?
The project estimated to be completed on Friday 09/01/2026. The project takes 260 days
2. What is the critical path for the project?
The critical path for the project is 2 => 3 => 5 => 8 => 9 => 11 => 12 => 13 => 15 => 16
=> 17
3. Which activity has the greatest amount of slack?
Activity has the greatest amount of slack is Detailed Marketing Plan (179 days)
4. How sensitive is this network?
The project is not sensitive because the activities that are not on the critical paths have a
lot of slack and there is only 1 critical path.
5. Identify two sensible milestones and explain your choices.
Follow me two sensible milestones are Build Prototypes and Install Production
Equipment
- Build Prototypes is most important milestones because based on that then worker
know what to build
- Install Production Equipment is also important milestone because if they install
something that is not supposed to be installed then project gets delay and it will be
over budget
A Gantt chart
A network diagram highlighting the critical path.
A schedule table reporting ES, LS, EF, LF, and slack for each activity
PART 2A
1. Which if any of the resources are overallocated?
The resources are overallocated: Marketing specialist, Design engineer, Industrial
engineer
2. Assume that the project is time constrained and try to resolve any overallocation
problems by leveling within slack. What happens?
The Marketing specialist and Design engineer overallocation problem are solved but the
Industrial engineer can’t be solved. There were not enough resources for non-critical
activities to absorb the demand for the resource.
3. What is the impact of leveling within slack on the sensitivity of the network?
The impact of leveling within slack on the sensitivity of the network: leveling within
slack helps increase the sensitivity of the network.
4. Assume that the project is resource constrained and no additional personnel are
available. How long will the project take given the resources assigned?
Given the existing resources and no additional personnel, the project will take an
additional 50 days, extending the duration from 260 days to 310 days, with a revised
completion date of 23/03/2026.
5. How does the new duration compare with the estimated completion date generated
from Part 1? What does this tell you about the impact resources can have on a
schedule?
The new duration is longer than the estimated completion date generated from Part 1.
Extends the schedule by 50 workdays (260 days - 310 days). So, to finish project on time,
each step must be completed with required resources if they are not correctly allocated
properly at the start of the project, major delays will occur.
PART 2B
1. What was the impact of introducing Start-to-Start lags to the schedule and
budget?
Overall project duration was reduced from 310 days to 290 days and the new
completion date is on 23/02/2026. The lag reduces the project duration at no
additional cost, hence it doesn’t impact the project budget.
2. Which, if any additional personnel assignments, would you choose to complete
the project before the January 17th deadline? Explain your choices as well as the
reasons for not choosing other options.
Overallocated Resources: Design Engineer and Industrial Engineer I would like to
request for additional industrial engineer since this addition will get the project to be
completed by 15th December 2025 which is before the January 17th while
maintaining cost
Additional Resource
o Design Engineer: This will not help meet the deadlines as it only produces an
estimated 23/3/2026 completion date
o Industrial Engineer: This addition will get the project to be completed by
1/1/2026
o Design and Industrial Engineer: This addition is not optimal as the soonest
completion date will still be 15th December 2025
3. How have these changes affected the sensitivity of the network and the critical
path?
These changes affected the sensitivity of the network and the critical path: Help
reduce the overall duration of the project from 310 days to 255 days. The sensitivity
of the project’s network increases, and the project has 2 critical paths based on the
current resource sheet (Design Engineer & Industrial Engineer). The total and free
slack of the project’s tasks that are not on the critical paths also have a reduced
number of available slack.
PART 3
1. How much will the project cost? What is the most expensive activity?
The project will cost $903,699.04. The most expensive activity is Detailed Product
Design.
2. What does the cash flow statement tell you about how costs are distributed over
the life span of the project?
The cost of the project was low at the beginning. Increasing by month until April. It
starts to decrease until September, then rises again until completion. April is the
highest cost. This show that the project will be labor intensive during the first 8
months.
PART 4A
1. How is the project progressing in terms of cost and schedule?
Initially, the project took 255 days (Finished on 15/12/2025) to complete and cost needed
to complete is $903,699.04. Now, the project takes 271 days which ends on 15/01/2026
and costs $939,208.65 to complete.
2. What activities have gone well? What activities have not gone well?
- The activities gone well are Market Analysis, Product Design, Manufacturing Study,
Product Design Selection and Detailed Product Design.
- The activities have not gone well are Detail Marketing Plan and Manufacturing
Process
3. How much of the project has been accomplished (PCIB)
⇒ PCIB = (EV/ BAC) x 100% = (418,581.73/ 903,699.04) x 100% = 46%
44% of the project has been accomplished
4. What is the forecasted cost at completion (EACf)
- The forecasted cost at completion is 980,362.69
5. What is the estimated completion date?
- The estimated completion date is on 15/01/2026
6. How is the project doing in terms of priorities (see Part 1)?
- The project finish has evolved because of the adjustments to adding additional
resources and starting activities early. The project is well within schedule
