1.1.1 Introduction
This manual is used when the machine is operated by a host computer and it is mainly focused on the
connecting interface. It has no relationship to the performance of the machine. Rather, it is concerned with
connection of RS-232C interface. If controlling the machine in groups, determine specification after
thoroughly reading this manual.
This manual is written for use with JV131.
=REMARKS=
Be aware that contents of this manual are subject to change without prior notice.

1.1.3 External Connection Specification for the Machine

„ Communication Circuit
There is only one circuit from JV131. Since the voltage system is adopted, for medium distance or long
distance transmission (telephone circuit), it is necessary to set a modem at the output of JV131.
The transmission distance of RS-232C, without a modem, is shorter than 15m (50 feet) as it is the
transmission circuit of the unbalanced circuit.
Actually, up to 30m can be covered, but it varies with the various conditions, so it would be preferable
to consult us if questions arise.
„ Communication System
The start-stop synchronous type and full duplex communication system.
However, protocol is handshaking system.
„ Communication Speed
The baud rate is changeable and the following settings are possible:
2400 4800 9600 19200 bps
However, standard setting is 4800 bps.
„ Connectors
Connected using 25-pin AM205208-1 mounted to the front panel of the P783K controller.
„ Transmission Unit Configuration
The transmission unit as shown in the following figure is composed of 1 start bit, 7 data bits, 1 parity bit
and 1 stop bit; namely 10 bits in total.

1.1.4 Basic Transmission Timing of Transmission Unit

One character basic transmission timing of JV131 is as shown below.
ER signal (Terminal ready signal) is set by the initial process when power is turned on, and can be reset
simply by the emergency stop switch.

1) Character sending timing

When the request to send signal (RS) is output to the other interface side, the clear to send the signal
(CS) will come back from the other side. Then, characters are automatically sent from JV131.
The CS signal is called “clear to send”, and if the other side is in a receiving mode, the characters are
always output, especially if the other side has a hardware buffer of a certain degree.
When status TXE turns “ON”
Turns ON the request to send signal. RS output turns “OFF”.
RS (Output)

Clear to send signal returns. When receiving process starts, RS

CS (Input) output turns “OFF”.

S 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 P S
SD (Output)

Since the DR (Data set ready) signal means the other interface terminal side is ready, it checks only if
“ON” at the startup process of character sending. If DR signal is “OFF”, character sending waits until it
is turned “ON”.

2) Character receiving timing

For receiving characters there are not restrictions or conditions in communications, so all characters
output by the Host computer can be read. However, the characters received when processing the
received command are neglected.

1.2.1 Message Format

The machine and the host computer are connected by RS-232C interface as hardware. And, as software, in
byte unit, ASCII code (with parity) is used. The message format is as follows, and STX code to ETX code is
processed as one message. It includes number of characters, command, data and check sum data.

C 1 D 0 N 1 Z 1 2 5 E

EXT: 1 digit
Check sum: 1 digit
Data field: Max. 88 digits

Command field: 2 digits

No. of characters: 2 digits
(Command + data)
STX: 1 digit
Break code
(Optional)

„ STX (START OF TEXT)

The character STX which appears first until the ETX which appears next are processed as one
message. The STX which appears in the message again is processed only as one unit of data. The
ASCII code with parity is H'82.

„ Number of characters
The number of characters in the command and data fields is counted in binary, and the result of 8 bits
are divided into 4 bits each of upper and lower digits. They are respectively expressed in hexadecimals
(X0” - F”) and processed by ASCII code.
Since hexadecimals are 2 digits, the largest number is FF (256). To read this much data, 256 codes for
256 buffers are required for the interface in the JV131.
In actual practice, however, 36 codes can meet requirements for all commands according to the
command contents described later. As a result, the maximum number of codes to be received in one
message by the machine is 96 characters including margin. However, even when characters other
than those specified by commands are included in data, they are stored in the buffer when the machine
receives the data. So be careful not to overflow the capacity when the label is added by the user.
In this case, attention must also be paid since characters other than those specified should also be
counted.

1.2-1 D7AHEC-51-020-A0
JV131
HOST COMPUTER SYSTEM
1.2 PanaProtocol and Command Specifications

„ Command field
The message between JV131 and the host computer is conducted by the specified command.
The command is largely categorized as follows and is processed by ASCII code.

C 1

Small category (character used: 0-F)

Large category (character used: A-Z)

The large category is actually limited to the following 4 types and used as follows:

Large
category Message Contents How it is used
command
Used when JV131 and host computer Used as communication
mutually confirm that the message procedure, for use in
A Acknowledge has been received. “acknowledgment”, “negative
(Host CPU ← → JV131) acknowledgment” and “request to
resend” to the message received.
Used when the host computer Start of sending and receiving NC
requests action to JV131. program.
Control
C
command (Host CPU → JV131) Specifies I/O monitoring.
Start/stop/reset command for
machine.
Means the data transmitted between Transmits NC program.
D Data JV131 and host computer. Transmits the results of I/O
(Host CPU ← → JV131) monitoring.
Used for JV131 to inform host “Operation mode information”,
computer of changes in information “Error information” and “Recovery
whenever they occur. information” are transmitted from
Real time (Host CPU ← JV131) JV131 on real time to Host
R computer. The host computer
information
compiles and analyzes this
information and uses it for
production management of
JV131.

„ Data field
As explained above, the actual number range of data usable is 88 or less. In the data field, the
characters other than those specified by command are neglected. Also, all are processed by ASCII
code.

„ Check sum
The ASCII code, “number of characters”, “Command field” and “Data field” are subtracted by 8 bits not
counting zero, and the results are divided into 4 bits each of upper and lower digits. They are
respectively expressed in hexadecimals (X‘0’ - F”) and processed by ASCII code.
Therefore, at the time of confirmation of check sum, add command and data in ASCII code (7 bits, no
parity) to check sum data. If the total of 8-bit sum becomes zero, the check sum is OK.
To figure out the character position of check sum, do not figure the 2-digit character before ETX. But,
with the number of characters as the base, count the number of the data fields, and a 2-digit character
after the contents of the count should coincide with the number of characters. Therefore, if there is an
error in the number of characters, an error occurs in the check sum, too.

If the check sum is not necessary because of making the software for the host computer, leave the
message format as it is and substitute a dummy data in the check sum column and then select
changeover switch. All the check sums in the machine will all be OK.

HOST COMPUTER SYSTEM
1.2 PanaProtocol and Command Specifications

„ ETX (END OF TEXT)

The ETX which appears at the end of the message is to complete the message which started with STX.
In ASCII code with parity, it becomes X’03’.

„ Break (Optional)
When a conversation takes place between a machine and the host computer, several messages are
exchanged between the two according to commands. A break code is used to start a conversation
from a machine to the host computer, and is output to the host computer only once at the start of the
conversation.

A break code is attached

only this time.
Start
Host No break code
computer JV131
No break code

No break code

This is the code that SD terminal of the RS-232C interface is clamped forcefully to signal level “1” by
1.5-digit character, and this is usually used on the mini-computer to lead the data which is sent by
breaking the current job.
When this is not necessary for the convenience of the host computer, select changeover switch of
checksum function to cut the break. Never add this to the machine. This is not output in the standard
settings.

1.3. Command Description

D7AHEC-51-030-A0
Commands can be largely divided into the following 4 categories.

C command Control command

D command Data command
R command Real time command
A command Acknowledge command

1.3.1 C Commands (C0, C1, C2, C3, C4, C5)

There are 6 types of remote control commands to JV131, C0, C1, C2, C3, C4 and C5. These commands are
all effective only from the host computer controlling JV131. C commands cannot be output from JV131 to the
host computer.

1.3.2 A Commands (A0, A1, A2, A3, A4)

A (Acknowledge) command is a command when the host computer converses with JV131 to acknowledge
that commands have been mutually received and that there are no errors. This command can be used both
by the host computer and JV131.

„ Command to request the next data (A0)

This command shows that the receiver has properly received the data transmitted by the sender, and is
usually used as a command requesting the next data during NC program data transmission.

„ Data resend request command (A1)

If the data received is not normal, an A1 command is returned to the sender. When the sender receives the
A1 command, it becomes data resending mode. Data resending is to send again the data which was in error.
There are the following 6 types in data receiving error.

Framing error
Stop bit is not detected after data character.
Overrun error
The received data is sent within Z80 data buffer and the next data is received before the CPU can
be read by Z80B.
Parity error
There is parity error (even parity check) in the data received.
Check sum error
The figure of the check sum code of the data column received is wrong.
Overflow error
Receiving buffer overflow has occurred.
Format error
No STX or No ETX in the data received.

∗ Applicable code
0: Framing error 3: Check sum error
1: Overrun error 4: Overflow error
2: Parity error 5: Format error

Even if JV131 receives error codes E00 - E05, it has no means of expressing it, and does not process them.
Therefore, when the host computer sends the A1 command to JV131, only A1 is sufficient, and there is no
need to add E00 - E05. (It does not matter if they are added.)
However, from JV131 to host computer, E00 - E05 data is always added and sent. The host computer is
then able to determine the type of error using that data.

The data resending sequence is as shown in Ex.) and this sequence is exactly the same of whatever data is
being sent.

When JV131 operation thereafter is continued. If resending is not successful, try to prevent the host
computer from sending the A1 command twice.
As a result, JV131 discontinues the receiving mode by time out processing, and prepares for the next
conversation.
At the time of resending data, the reason the A1 command is not resent is that it is meaningless to resend it
again.
When A1 command is returned at this time, JV131 becomes re-resending mode.
If an A1 command is returned from JV131, the host computer should control the number of A1 commands,
and after resending data only once, discontinue resending.

D7AHEC-5E-020-A0

R (real time) command is to inform the host computer of the changes of conditions during the production
work of JV131 whenever they occur. This is used as a remote control or to collect production control
information. However, when the host computer is used just for transmission of NC data, if R command is
received, it causes inconveniences. As indicated in ‘1.1.6 Changing Data Transmission Mode’, it is possible
to use the selector switch so that R command does not occur.

5.2.1 Production Quantity Information: R0

R0 Command is used for totaling the hours worked by JV131 which started operating by the remote control
command. R0 command has the following 4 functions.

1.
1. CT
This occurs only when stop mode is in “CONT” and NC program has executed the EOP step.
In case of error, this signal occurs only when restarted in “CONT” mode.
Usually, this is used for counting PCB production.

2. EP
This occurs only when stop mode is in “EOP” or “1STEP” and NC program has executed an EOP step.
Therefore, when an error has occurred at the final dispense step, this signal will not be generated until
operation is by “EOP” or “1STEP” key.
This signal can be used to end production. In this case, R0CT is not output.

3. BDGD
In the bad mark sensing corresponding machine, this verifies with the bad mark sensor if the PCB is
capable of being inserted before the actual insertion action.
If it is found to be capable of being inserted, this signal is generated.

4. BDNG
In the bad mark sensing corresponding machine, if the verification results find the PCB as being
incapable (inhibit) of being inserted, this signal is generated.

2.
1. OL or FL
These commands inform the host computer that the control mode of JV131 is the online (OL) or off-line
(FL). This is generated when mode select switch on the main control panel of JV131 is switched over,
or immediately after the power is turned ON.
2. ES
When the power is shut down by an emergency stop, R1ES command is outputted by the contact input
of ES switch.
3. ST
This command informs the host computer that JV131 has started because the START switch on the
main control panel was pressed or a C5ST command was input from the host computer. This is the
signal output when JV131 has started operation. This signal is also output at the time of restart.
4. SP
This command shows that JV131 has stopped in conditions other than error.
Actually, it is the normal stopping of 1. Step operation other than at the final print step.
When the NC program switch is “EOP”, this command is not sent and R0EP command is output to
distinguish from stop in EOP stop mode.
5. PS
When a PCB is transferred to the start of the loader rail, the PCB detector 2LS goes ON. When this
switch goes ON (when the PCB is correctly set on the loader rail), this command is output. When
inputting a C5ST start to the JV131, It is necessary to check that this R1PS command has been
previously input to the host computer.
6. RE
When the “OPERATION RESET” switch on the main control panel has been pressed by the operator
or the C5RE command has been executed by the host computer.
7. PW
In the NC program when G1T4 command is executed, X-Y-Z axes return to origin point and PCB
loading is conducted on X-Y table. At this time, if there is no PCB at the head of the loader rail (that is,
if R1PS command has not occurred prior to it), it is in the PCB arrival waiting condition. In such
conditions, this command occurs.
This signal also occurs when it is impossible to convey away the PCB on the loader rail because the
unloader stocker is full, and PCB loading is impossible.
8. PE
This command shows that the above-mentioned R1PW command condition has been eliminated.
That is, after R1PW has occurred, this command occurs when PCB arrived at head of loader rail, or
when PCB has been discharged to unloader.
9. OC
This is the command informing the host computer that the XY axes started origin return action and
completed the action through inputting C5UP command (PCB sweep out command) from the host
computer.
10. UP
Sweeps out PCB in XY tables through inputting C5UP command from host computer. This is the
command informing the host computer of the C5UP action completion when PCB sweep out was
completed.

5.2 R Commands: R0,R1,R2,R3

11. RC
This occurs when insertion error occurs or correction start from C5TRC command or from control panel
begins.
12. LD
This command is sent when the loading operation has been completed.
13. LE
This command occurs, with the magazine stocker connected to the loader side, when PCB become
unable of being fed because of the rack being empty.
14. LF
This command occurs, with the magazine stocker connected to the loader side, when the empty racks
already finished supplying the PCB are fully stocked and the following rack cannot be set.
15. LS
This command occurs, with the magazine stoker connected to the loader side, when PCB in the rack
have all been supplied and the following rack setting completes at the PCB supply position.
16. LO
This command occurs. In the condition above, when the empty rack already finished supplying all the
PCB is swept out.
17. UE
This command occurs, with the magazine stocker connected to the unloader side, when the empty
racks to contain PCB runs out, thus the PCB become unable of being fed.
18. UF
This command occurs, with the magazine stocker connected to the unloader side, when the racks
finished stocking the PCB became full and the following rack cannot be set (unable stock PCB).
19. US
This command occurs, with the magazine stocker connected to the unloader side, when the empty
rack is set at the PCB containing position.
20. UO
This command occurs, with the magazine stocker connected to the unloader side, when the rack fully
containing the PCB and the rack is swept out to the unloading position.
21. TE
This command is sent when width adjustment has been completed normally.
