The Courage of Timbo
Timbo was the smallest turtle in the lake. He lived in a small place under a rock
with green moss. Near him, there were lilies. The other animals laughed at him
because he was slow and clumsy. He could not swim fast or dive deep like the
others. His broken shell made him move slowly. One day, dark clouds covered the
sky. The wind blew strongly, and the water moved. A loud voice shouted from far
away: “A hawk is trapped!” The animals got scared and hid in the plants. But
Timbo did not move. He was afraid, but also brave. He walked slowly toward the
sound. His legs shook, but he kept going. Near the shore, he saw a hawk in a
fisherman’s net. The bird tried to move its wings, but the ropes were too tight.
Timbo did not stop. He bit the ropes with his beak and pulled hard. The wind made
it difficult, but he kept working. At last, the net opened. The hawk stood up and
opened its wings. “You saved me,” it said. Timbo looked at the hawk’s strong
feathers and kind eyes. From that day, the animals saw Timbo in a new way. He
was not fast or strong, but he was brave. And that made all the difference.
