INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Social media is the most recent form of media and have also gained astounding worldwide growth. It
has become a part of everyone's life, especially in this time of pandemic. Social media is a very broad
term and really encompasses several different types of media, such as videos, blogs, etc. It is a place
where you can transmit information about other people. Social media is a vehicle for communication
and it let everyone share content that other people can share, in turn, with their online connections. It
provides young people with a range of benefits and opportunities to empower themselves in a variety of
ways, Young people can maintain social connections and can access more information than ever before.
It has become a place where we spend many hours of the purpose of business or leisure or socializing
with others or other purposes, especially in this time of pandemic.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
Among the Essentials of technology, the effect of social media on people has been an important issue
which increases day by day. The purpose of this study is to determine the impacts of social media and its
effects to the youth, especially in the municipality of Sallapadan.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
1. What are the impacts of social media to the youth of Sallapadan?
2. How do these impacts affect the youth?
3. How do youth use social media?
4. Why are the youth addicted to social media ?
OVERVIEW OF THE STUDY
Social media usage by youth is so rampant recently because of easy access to devices especially in this
time of pandemic. Addiction to the usage of social media has extremely increased in recent times like
when you use a large amount of time on social media and spending less time in other activities or
hobbies in order to use social media. The perils of its effects on the performance of the over-involved
youth are disturbing. These therefore necessitate the study of the impacts of social media to the youth,
especially to the municipality of sallapadan.
METHODOLOGY
Survey method will be used to collect data from respondents
belonging to the age group of 15-24. Questionnaires will
constructed and distributed to 30 respondents from the chosen Barangays in the municipality of
Sallapadan. Random sampling method will be used when selecting the respondents. The collected data
from the selected youth of Sallapadan will be presented through the use of tabular form. Secondary
data collected from journals, books and websites.
DELIMITATION
The study was conducted to assess the impacts of social media on youth of Sallapadan. Thirty (30) youth
who are actively using social media are the respondents of the
study. It will be conducted during this month. The study limited only on variables of social media that
the researchers assumed that has effects of respondents’ performance. These variables are
respondents’access to internet, usage,
perception on social media, and their frequency of using it.
ASSUMPTIONS
The research study is anchored on the assumption that the respondents will be honest in answering the
questionnaires which upon data to be gathered by the researchers are valid and reliable for correlation.
In addition, the research study is believed to be timely relevant to the respondents that will result into
an outcome providing basis of knowledge to the question.
DEFINITION
Social media- refers to a computer-based technology that facilitates the sharing of ideas, thoughts, and
information through virtual networks and communities.
Media- refers to the communication channels through which we disseminate news, music, movies,
education, promotional messages and other data.
Youth- refers to a young person who has not yet reached adulthood and refers to the time period before
you become an adult.
ORGANIZATION OF THE STUDY
This study focuses on the impacts of social media to the youth of the municipality of Sallapadan. It aims
to determine the different impacts of social media including its effects to the youth in order for the
people to be aware of the relation of social media to the youth. At the end of this research, we would be
analysing the data collected from our respondents. We would be formulating hypothesis to give
conclusions and recommendations. With this research, every youth will be able to address the impacts
of social media and its effects to their every day performance.
