CELPIP Writing Task 1 – Email Prediction (June 2025)

You recently visited a local community centre and noticed several issues that need
improvement. You decide to write an email to the manager of the community centre.

Write an email to the manager in about 150–200 words. Your email should:

 Describe your recent visit and what you observed

 Mention 2–3 specific problems (e.g., cleanliness, equipment, staff behavior)
 Suggest possible solutions to improve the situation

Dear Manager,

I hope this message finds you well. I recently visited the community centre
on June 19, 2025, I appreciate the valuable services your facility provides to
residents.

However, I noticed few areas that could need improvement. Firstly, the gym
equipment such as treadmills and bikes appeared outdated and some were
not functional. Secondly, the washrooms were not clean and lacked basic
supplies like soap and paper towels, which raises hygiene concerns.

To enhance the overall experience, I recommend scheduling regular

maintenance for equipment and ensuring cleaning staff check the facilities
more frequently. Additionally, placing clear signage for reporting issues
could help you act more promptly.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I believe with few changes; the
community centre can continue to be a welcoming space for everyone.

Best Regards,

Chamoda Wijesundara

Question:
Your child’s school is planning to introduce a new mandatory program.
Option A – 200 hours of community volunteering
Option B – A six-month paid work placement
Which one do you support?

I would choose a six-month paid work placement for high school students.
While volunteering offers some value, I believe a structured, paid work
experience provides great long term benefits and better prepares students
for real world challenges.
A paid placement gives students hands on experience in professional
settings. They learn essential skills such as time management skills,
communication and teamwork. These are not always taught in the
classroom. For example, working in a retail or office environment can teach
students how to interact with customers or handle deadlines, skills that are
critical in any career.

In addition, students receive financial compensation, which can help them

save for college or contribute to their families. This option is far more
practical than volunteering, which might feel like a burden when combined
with schoolwork. While community service build character, it does not always
lead to job opportunities. In contrast, a paid work placement builds both
experience and a resume.

In conclusion, I strongly support option B, because it equips students with

real world knowledge and independence. This practical experience gives
them a head start in life and helps them make informed decisions about their
future careers.

Prediction 2 – Complaint About Public Transportation

You recently experienced a problem with your city's public transportation system. Write
an email to the public transportation authority.

Your email should:

 Describe what happened

 Explain how it affected your day
 Suggest how the system can be improved

I am writing to bring to your attention a recent issue I faced with the public
bus service. On June 19th, I boarded Route 22 at 7.30AM, only to find that the
bus was overcrowded, and the air conditioning was not functioning. To make
matter worse, the driver skipped serval scheduled stops without explanation,
causing confusion among passengers.

This delay made me late for an important work presentation, affecting both
my professional image and productivity. I understand that occasional issues
are invetible, but this seems to be recurring concern among many
commuters.

I kindly suggest increasing the frequency of buses during peak hours and
ensuring that maintenance checks are done regularly. Additionally, providing
real time updates through your app or website would allow passengers to
plan better and reduce frustration.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope steps will be taken to
improve the reliability of our transit system.

Prediction 2 – Office Policy Change

Prompt: Your company wants to improve employee satisfaction.

Option A – Allow employees to work from home two days per week
Option B – Reduce working hours by 30 minutes each day

In my opinion, Option A offers greater benefits and aligns more effectively with modern
work trends.

Allowing employees to work from home two days a week promotes better work-life balance and
provides greater flexibility. By eliminating the daily commute on those days, employees save
both time and money. This not only reduces stress but also leads to higher job satisfaction.

Furthermore, many employees report increased productivity when working in a quiet home
environment. They are less likely to be distracted and can often complete tasks more efficiently.
This arrangement also fosters trust between employers and staff, enhancing motivation and a
sense of autonomy.

In contrast, reducing the workday by just 30 minutes has minimal impact. Employees still need
to commute every day and face rush hour traffic. The slight change in hours is unlikely to
significantly improve mental health, performance, or job satisfaction.

Overall, Option A is a more impactful, progressive approach that reflects today’s

workplace expectations and supports employee well-being more effectively.

Feedback to a new restaurant

You recently had dinner at a newly opened restaurant in your area. Write an email to the
restaurant manager to give your feedback.

Your email should:

 Describe your experience

 Mention what you liked and what could be improved
 Suggest how they can enhance customer satisfaction

Dear Manager,

I recently had a pleasure of dining at Indian Bistro, and I wanted to share my

experience. First, I must commend the friendly staff and the inviting
atmosphere. The interior décor is modern and cozy, which made us feel right
at home.

Nevertheless, I found some areas that could be improved. The wait time for
our food exceeded 45 minutes, even though the restaurant was not too busy.
Additionally, my meal was served lukewarm, which affected the overall taste.
I believe these are easily fixable issues.

To enhance your service, I suggest refining your kitchen workflow and

ensuring better coordination between staff. Adding a feedback card at the
end of the meal could also help gather valuable insights from more
customers.

Despite all hiccups, I’m eager to visit again and try other items on your
menu. Thank you for your hard work in creating a lovely dining space in our
neighbourhood.

Concern regarding poor dining experience

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing about my dinner reservation
on Wednesday, June 13, 2025, at 5. [Link], the evening fell
short of expectations due to both the food and the service.

First, regarding the food: my sea food platter was undercooked and too cold,
while my husband’s steak, ordered medium, arrived overcooked and dry.
Next, the service was disappointing, we waited more than 45 minutes past
our reservation time, and the server seemed unresponsive when we raised
concerns.

As a loyal customer, I left feeling disheartened. To restore my confidence, I

kindly request either a partial refund or a complimentary meal on a future
visit. A gesture like this would demonstrate your commitment to quality and
customer care.

Thank you for your understanding, I look forward to hearing how you intend
to address these issues.
Your Sincerely,

Chamoda Wijesundara

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my frustration regarding a faulty kitchen appliance I

recently purchased from your store. I bought a microwave on June 19,
however, unfortunately, it has not worked since I first tried using it. Despite
following the instructions carefully, the appliance does not turn on, and I
believe it may be defective.

I contacted your store by phone on last Monday to report the issue and
request assistance. However, no action has been taken so far. I was assured
that someone would get back to me but have not yet receive a response.
This lack of follow up has been quite disappointing.

I would appreciate it if you could take immediate action to resolve this

matter. I would like a replacement for the faulty item or a full refund if a
replacement is not possible. Please let me know how to proceed as soon as
possible. I hope for a quick resolution to avoid further inconvenience.

I look forward to your prompt response.

Best Regards,

Chamoda Wijesundara

I would like to opine in favour of option A, as it seems to be a better and

convincing choice than the other one. Though the other choice is equally
appealing, I would strongly recommend the salary hike to all the employees
based on their experience.

To begin with, experience makes the human perfect in all works of life.
Whenever the experience is there, it plays a significant role in the
organization’s growth. An experienced team may bring more laurels to the
company and to the group which they are associated with.

Moreover, the experienced associates could build strong next level

employees who can take over from them and lead the company to different
heights. This will certainly pave the way for the firm’s future growth.
Having discussed all the arguments, I believe the organization should plan in
such a way that the utmost priority to be given to all the experienced folks
and respectable salary hike to given to those employees. I appreciate the
chance provided to me to voice my opinion.

Work from home request

Dear Manager,

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to formally request the
opportunity to work from home for the next 3 weeks, Starting June 15. Due to
a family health issue that requires my [Link] remotely would
allow me to maintain my productivity while also maintaining my family
responsibilities at home.

Additionally, I want to assure you that my work performance will not be

affected. I have a quiet and well-equipped workspace at home, and I will
remain fully accessible through email, Teams, and phone. I will also ensure
that all tasks and deadlines are met without interruption.

I believe this temporary arrangement will help me stay focused both

personally and professionally. I am more than willing to provide updates and
attend the meeting virtually.

Thank you very much for your understanding and support. I look forward to
your response.

Yours Sincerely,

Chamoda Wijesundara.

Score 12 answer template

Sample Band 12 Answer (Using Template)

I strongly believe that Option A, allowing employees to work from home two days a week, is
the better choice among the two presented in the survey. Although Option B also offers a slight
improvement in work hours, Option A provides more meaningful benefits in both personal well-
being and productivity.
To begin with, working from home eliminates the need to commute, saving employees both time
and money. For example, skipping the daily drive can save up to two hours a day for many
workers, which significantly reduces stress and allows more time for family or self-care. This not
only improves mental health but also increases job satisfaction and motivation.

Moreover, remote work can enhance focus and efficiency. Employees are often more productive
in a quiet home environment where there are fewer distractions. On the other hand, reducing the
workday by just 30 minutes still requires employees to commute daily and does little to ease the
pressure of peak-hour travel.

In conclusion, Option A is clearly the superior choice because it promotes flexibility, improves
well-being, and boosts productivity. It aligns better with modern work trends and meets the
evolving expectations of today’s workforce.

Working from home two days per week is preferred because it promotes better work-life balance and saves employees time and money by eliminating commute, which reduces stress and increases job satisfaction. Additionally, students receive financial compensation, which helps them save for college or contribute to their families. In contrast, community volunteering, while character-building, may not always lead to job opportunities and could be burdensome alongside schoolwork. Thus, a paid placement is more practical as it builds both experience and a resume .

Allowing employees to work from home offers pros such as improved work-life balance, reduced time and money spent on commuting, increased job satisfaction, and potentially higher productivity in a home environment with fewer distractions. The cons include challenges in coordinating teamwork and maintaining communication. The primary issues identified during the visit to the community centre included outdated and non-functional gym equipment such as treadmills and bikes, and unhygienic washrooms lacking basic supplies like soap and paper towels. The suggested solutions to improve these problems were scheduling regular maintenance for equipment, ensuring cleaning staff check the facilities more frequently, and placing clear signage to report issues promptly .

This investment in experienced staff can foster mentorship and lead to sustained organizational success and development. It suggests that focusing on experience could drive employee satisfaction and retention, ultimately benefiting the firm’s future growth .
