Solution: 2(n+7)-13 = 37 wherein 2(n+7) should be
equal to 50. Then n+7 should be equal to 25.
This means that n=18.

15. Eight sheets of bond paper cost ₱3.00. How much would 20
sheets cost?
Solution: 8n = 3 x 20
8n = 60
n = 60÷8
Answer: ₱7.50

16. A cube has a volume of 512 cm3. How long is an edge?

Solution: 3.012 has three decimal places

23. Two numbers are in the ratio 2:5. If their difference is 48, what
is this bigger number?
Solution: Change 2:5 to higher terms such that their
difference is 48.

24. The sum of 5 consecutive numbers is 285. What is the largest


of the numbers?
Solution: 285÷5=57 Using the numbers come before and
after 57 we can come up with numbers 55, 56,
57, 58, and 59 whose sum is 285.
Answer: 59

25. Nelia paid ₱159.60 for a blouse at discount of 16%. What is


the marked price?
Solution: 159.6÷0.84 = 190
Answer: ₱190
26. The base of an isosceles triangle is 26 cm. If the parameter is
72 cm. find the length of each of the equal sides.
Solution: 72-26 = 46÷2 = 23
Answer: 23 cm

27. A lagoon has a radius of 28 m. If you walk around it 4 times,


how many meters will that be? [Use л=22/7]
Solution: C = 2 лr
= 2x22/7x28
= 1 232/7
= 176 x 4
= 704
Answer: 704 m

28. Kate and Linda together weigh 87 kilos; Linda and Rose
together weigh 92 kilos. If Rose weighs 49 kilos, what is the weight
of Kate?
Solution: 49 – Rose’s weight
92-49=43 – Linda’s weight
87-43=44 – Kate’s weight
Answer: 44 kilos

29. If 3, 456 x 245 = 846,720, what is 34,560 x 2450?


Solution: Add two zeroes to the product.
Answer: 84 672 000

30. A vendor bought 3 dozen watermelons at ₱ 648 a dozen. He


sold all at ₱ 75 each. How much was his gain?
Solution: 75 x 36 = 2 700
648 x 3 = 1 944
2 700-1 944 = 756
Answer: ₱756

31. A can has a square base of side 30 cm and a height of 45 cm.


If 1 dm3 = 1 liter, how many liters of oil will the can hold?

Solution: 30 x 30 x 45 = 40 500 cm3


40 500 cm3 = 40.5 dm3

32. The parallel sides of trapezoidal field are 186 m and 146 m. If
they are 110 m apart, how many hectares is the area of the field?

pupils, how many books are there?
Solution: 3n = 54 x 2
3n = 108
n =108/3

Answer: 36

44. The scale of the blueprint of the house of Mr. Carlos is 2 cm: 3
m. If the living room of the house is 4 cm by 6 cm in the blueprint,
what is the area of the living room?
Solution: 4÷2=2; 6÷2=3
2 x 3 = 6; 3 x 3 = 9
9 x 9 = 54
Answer: 54 m2

45. If a car consumes 5 liters of gasoline for 44 km, how far can it
go on 20 liters?
Solution: 5n = 44 x 20
5n = 880
n = 880/5

Answer: 176 km
46. Suppose two days ago was Sunday .What day of the week will
365 days from today be?
Answer: Wednesday

47. There are 4 boys and 5 girls standing outside a record shop.
The sign in the window offers a price to every couple (one boy and
one girl) that enters the shop. How many prizes can the 9 people
get?
Solution: If we pair each boy to each girl, there will
be 5 pairs. Since there are 4 boys, there
will be 20 pairs.
Answer: 20

48. When counting number is multiplied by itself, the result is a


squared number like 16, 25, 36. How many square numbers are
there between 500 and 2000?
Solution: The smallest square number from 500 – 2 000
is 529(23x23) while the largest is 1
936(44x44). There are 22 counting numbers
from 23 – 44.
Answer: 22

49. A certain number is divisible by 3 and 5. When the number is


divided by 7, the remainder is 4. What is the smallest number that
satisfies the conditions?
Solution: Find any multiples of 15 such that when you
divide it by 7 the remainder is 4.
(15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90..)
Answer: 60

50. Of three numbers, two are 1/2 and 1/3. What should the third
number be so that the average of the three is 1?

Solution: ½ + 1/3 = 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6 [You need 1/6 to

make a whole]

Answer: 1/6
