REFLECTION
Developing the business plan for “Sweet Potato Hub” was a far cry from a
straightforward process. Initially, I underestimated the sheer amount of work
involved in creating a truly comprehensive plan. We quickly learned that a
well-structured plan isn’t just about ticking boxes; it’s the foundation for
long-term strategy, allowing us to identify our strengths and weaknesses,
and anticipate potential opportunities and threats – the SWOT analysis
wasn’t just an exercise, it was a real eye-opener.
Defining the precise nature and scale of our business proved more
challenging than expected. We initially struggled to articulate our niche
within the market, but this process forced us to refine our vision and target
market. Determining the business size proved crucial for realistic budgeting
and helped avoid costly overestimation in our initial projections.
The industry analysis was equally challenging. We initially relied on
surface-level research, but quickly realised the need for more in-depth
investigation. We had to dig deeper to truly understand our customers,
competitive landscape, and emerging trends, which significantly improved
our market positioning strategy. This was time-consuming, but ultimately
worth the effort.
Creating the financial projections was, without a doubt, the most stressful
part of the process. It required significant collaboration and several revisions
as we worked to reconcile our ambitious goals with realistic financial
constraints. We learned the hard way that investors scrutinize these figures
closely, and simply estimating costs wasn’t sufficient; justification was key.
In short, the “Sweet Potato Hub” plan taught us that creating a solid
business plan requires not only meticulous research and planning but also a
significant amount of patience and teamwork. There were arguments,
disagreements, and moments of frustration, but these challenges, especially
the leadership aspects, have been invaluable lessons. While the final
presentation went well, it was a culmination of hard work and, frankly,
several all-nighters. The experience significantly enhanced my leadership
skills and taught me the true value of a well-defined plan.
