Detailed Lesson Plan in Math IV

I – Objectives
At the end of this lesson, learners are expected to:
A. Identify the parts of a triangle
B. Identify the different kinds of triangles according to sides and angles
C. Show orderliness in doing the activity
II - Content
Subject Matter: Triangles
Strategies: Cooperative learning
Materials: Textbook, pictures, cutouts of triangles, protractor, ruler
Reference: Mathematics text book page 162-163
III- Learning Tasks

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer

Let us pray first. Everybody stand!

In the name of the father, and of

the son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

pieces of paper and arrange your chairs
properly.

4. Checking of attendance

Now, I want you class to check your

seatmate so we can determine who are
the absentees for today.

Very good! All of you are present! I hope There’s no absent for today Teacher!
you will continue such good work
children!

Before we start our class, get first your

ruler and protractor in your Math
portfolio.

B. Drill

The teacher will show pictures of

different polygons and will let the pupils
identify each of them.

Square

Triangle

Rectangle

Rhombus

Parallelogram

Trapezoid

Great job! The figures that I just showed you are

examples of polygons. A polygon is a flat figure
that is made up of straight lines and is enclosed.

C. Motivation

The teacher will present triangle figure

that can be observed in everyday life.

A signage in triangle shape

A pizza in triangle shape

Very good children! These are just some

triangle-shaped things we see in our
everyday life. Now you may be
wondering why I’m showing you these
triangle figures. Because this morning,
we will be discussing about the different
parts and kinds of triangles.

D. Presentation
The teacher will present a big cutout of a
triangle.

A Vertex

Side

Angle
B

E. Discussion

Look at the triangle.

It has three sides.
It has three angles.
It has three vertices
Triangle can be named by its vertices.
This triangle can be named as ▲ABC.

Triangles can be classified according to their

angles.

A right triangle has a right

angle which
measures 90°.

An acute triangle has 3

acute angles, each measuring less than
90°.

An obtuse triangle has

an obtuse angle which
measures more than 90°.

Triangles can be classified according to their

sides.

An equilateral triangle has

3 equal sides.

An isosceles triangle has

2 equal sides.

A scalene triangle
has no equal sides.

F. Generalization
“Fact or Bluff”

We will play “Fact or Bluff”. I will give each

of you 2 flaglets which has a fact and bluff
written on it. I will be asking you questions
and you will raise the flaglet according to
your answer.

1. All triangles have all equal sides.

2. Triangles can be named by its vertices Bluff. Only the equilateral triangle has 3 equal
sides.
3. An equilateral triangle has two equal
sides Fact

Bluff. An equilateral triangle has 3 equal sides.

4. A triangle that has no equal sides is The triangle that has two equal sides is an
called scalene triangle. isosceles triangle.

Fact
5. A right triangle has a right angle which
measures less than 90°

6. An obtuse triangle has one obtuse angle Bluff. A right triangle has a right angle which
which measures more than 90° measures 90°. A triangle that has an angle which
measures less than 90° is an acute triangle.

G. Application Fact

This time, you will be working with your

group. But before that, I want ask you what
is the importance of working cooperatively
with your group mates and observing proper Working cooperatively with our group mates and
behavior? observing proper behavior will help us achieve a
better outcome Teacher.
Precisely! Now proceed to your respective
group. Work together as I will only be giving
you 10 minutes to complete this task.

Group Activity
Items 1 – 3 – measure the angles using the
protractor
Items 4 – 6 – measure the sides using the
ruler
IV. Evaluation

Open your Mathematics book on page 163.

Do the activity A and B. Write your answer
in a ¼ sheet of paper.

V.

Assignment

Draw the following in a long bond paper. Be

creative with your work. As much as
possible I am encouraging you to use
recyclable materials.
1. Right triangle
2. Acute triangle
3. Obtuse triangle
4. Equilateral triangle
5. Isosceles triangle
6. Scalene triangle
