Power BI Full Course Notes

Simple Explanation with Real-Time Examples

Designed for Beginners (Especially Telugu-speaking Learners)

Introduction: Why Power BI?
Imagine you are working in a company and your boss asks: ‘Show me how sales are
growing, which product is best, and who is performing well.’
If you use Excel, it will take a long time to prepare. But with Power BI, you can create
automatic dashboards that update themselves. That’s why learning Power BI is very
important.

Chapter 1: What is Power BI?

Power BI is a Business Intelligence tool by Microsoft. It helps to:
1 Clean your data (remove errors, blanks).
2 Analyze your data (find patterns).
3 Visualize your data (charts, graphs, dashboards).
Example Story: Rahul is managing sales data in Excel. He finds it very difficult to combine
10 different Excel files. With Power BI, he can connect all files, clean the data, and create
one dashboard in just a few minutes.

Chapter 2: Reports vs Dashboards

Report: A detailed document with multiple pages (like a book).
Dashboard: A single page summary that shows the most important points (like a car
dashboard).
Story Example: Manager prepares a detailed report of employee attendance (Report).
Boss only wants a one-page summary of who is absent today (Dashboard).

Chapter 3: Why Clean Data Before Visualization?

If you don’t clean your data, your charts will be wrong. Let’s see why:
1 Accuracy: Wrong spelling of names will split results. (Ex: Raju vs Rajoo)
2 Readability: Extra spaces or junk symbols confuse reports.
3 Performance: Large unclean data makes reports slow.
4 Consistency: If two departments write product names differently, charts will be wrong.
5 Trust: If boss sees mistakes, he will not trust reports.
Story Example: In a hospital, patient names are entered differently (Ram, Ramu, Rama). If
we don’t clean data, the system will count them as 3 different patients instead of 1. This
creates wrong results. Power BI solves this by cleaning before visualization.

Chapter 4: Why We Need Visualization?

Story: A retail store has a table of 5000 rows of sales data. Manager wants to know which
product sells best. Reading the table is very slow. If we create a bar chart, we can see
instantly which product is number one. Visualization makes decision-making faster and
clearer.

Chapter 5: Components of Power BI

1 Power Query: For cleaning data.
2 Power Pivot: For data modeling (joining tables).
3 Power View: For visualization (charts, maps).
4 Power BI Service: For sharing reports online.

Chapter 6: Why Choose Power BI?

1 Very Popular (Google Trends shows growth).
2 Maximum Features (1200+ functions, 280+ visuals).
3 Low Cost ($10 per user per month).
4 Connects to 100+ data sources (Excel, SQL, Oracle, etc.).
5 Recognized by Gartner as a Leader.

Chapter 7: How Power BI Works (Workflow)

1 Step 1: Import data (Excel, SQL, CSV, etc.).
2 Step 2: Clean the data (Power Query).
3 Step 3: Model the data (relationships in Power Pivot).
4 Step 4: Create charts and dashboards (Power View).
5 Step 5: Publish reports online (Power BI Service).
6 Step 6: Share with others (auto updates).

Summary & Key Points

Power BI is not just a tool, it is like a smart assistant for your data. It helps you clean,
analyze, and visualize data in a simple and fast way. Reports give details, dashboards
give summaries. Without cleaning data, visualization is dangerous. That is why Power BI
is becoming very popular worldwide.
