BRANCH: Civil Engineering TOPIC: Deflection of Beams
1) Write a short notes on :
a) Give any three methods for find out slope and deflection.
b) What are the different methods of finding slope and deflection of cantilever.
c) Define strain energy?
d) Define Slope and Deflection
e) Define moment area method
f) Define method of singularity function? (AKTU 2018-19, 2020-21, 2022-23)
2) A beam 4 m long is freely supported at the ends. It carries concentrated loads of 29 kN each at points 1 m
from the ends by Macaulay’s method. Determine (i) maximum slope and deflection of the beam (ii) slope
and deflection under each load. Take Flexural rigidity of the beam = 1300 kN/m2. (AKTU 2022-23)
3) (a) A cantilever beam is subjected to a concentrated load W at the free end, it is required to determine
the maximum deflection of the beam. (AKTU 2021-22)
(b) Derive the formula to find the deflection of a simply supported beam with point load w at the centre
by moment area method
4) A horizontal beam of uniform section and 7m long is simply supported at it ends. The beam is subjected
to a UDL of 6 KN/m over a length of 3m from the left end and a concentrated load of 12 KN at 5m from the
left end. Find the maximum deflection in the beam using Macauley’s method. (AKTU 2017-28)
5) A cantilever of length 3m is carrying a point load of 50kN at a distance of 2m from the fixed end. If
E=2x105 N/mm 2 and I=108 mm4 find (i) slope at the free end and (ii) deflection at the free end.
(AKTU 2016-17)
6) A beam section is 10m long and is simply supported at ends. It carries concentrated loads of100kN and 60kN at
a distance of 2m and 5m respectively from the left end. Calculate the deflection under the each load find also the
maximum deflection. Take I = 18 X 108mm4 and E = 200kN/mm2 (AKTU 2020-21)
