Introduction Knowledge
This tutorial will outline the steps needed to configure the email function in the i3.
The email feature allows sending of email messages with embedding textual real time data from the i3
Email could be used to :
• To notify remote users to alarm conditions.
• To send run time information about machine status during previous day or shift.
• To request maintenance be performed on a machine
Configuring the i3 to send emails:
In i3 configurator select the menu item : Program -> Messaging -> Email
Check ‘Enable Email Configuration’ to enable the email functionality . The status registers will also be specified which will allow checking that email
operations are running successfully.

Configuring the Email Server Knowledge
Click on “E-Mail Server Configuration” to configure Email address, Server Address and authentication.
The following dialog would be opened.
SMTP Server Settings
Obtain SMTP Server IP Address from DNS Server: Check this box to obtain SMTP Server IP from DNS server.
DNS server IP: Enter the IP address of the DNS server. Configure these with the information provided by email service provider.
SMTP Server Name: Typically, the SMTP server name will be provided by the email service provider. In this tutorial, the [Link] is used.
SMTP Server IP: Specify the SMTP Server IP address of the email service provider here, or if the ‘Get Settings from Register’ box is checked enter
the location of a 32-bit register which will contain the SMTP server IP address.
Port: Connect to [Link] on port 465, if you’re using SSL or connect on port 587 ,if you’re using TLS).
Configuring the Email Directory
Before creating Send Emails, a directory of email addresses needs to
be created. Click on E-Mail Directory button to configure email
addresses.).
Click the“Add contact” button to add a new contact .
The email addresses may be entered directly or specified to be taken
from a string in the i3 registers.

Outgoing Emails Settings (SEND): Knowledge
Finally, we must configure the emails which will be sent by the i3. The set of messages to be sent is configured is
configured in the table ‘Email Send Mails’ which is accessed by clicking ‘Outgoing messages’ in the main email
configuration dialog box.
Creating the Screen:
For this screen we added the following :
• Two numeric display , to display the email status ( R1001-R1002)
• Button object on the screen and assigned to the appropriate trigger to it (here: the %T1 is used as before configured in the ‘Outgoing Messages’
window).
• Bit lamp for the status of the trigger bit. ( %T1).
• Time Data Properties to display the current time.( %SR044)
The i3 controller offers secure Email messaging. SMTP or TLS email with an attachment or datalog files can be sent.
In the attached demo you will send an email using a Gmail account with authentication. The message will include the real RTC time of the controller.
