Factorization Cheat-Sheet

Basic Squares
a² - b² = (a - b)(a + b)
a² + 2ab + b² = (a + b)²
a² - 2ab + b² = (a - b)²

Cubes
a³ - b³ = (a - b)(a² + ab + b²)
a³ + b³ = (a + b)(a² - ab + b²)

Special 4th Power Patterns

a■ - b■ = (a² - b²)(a² + b²) = (a - b)(a + b)(a² + b²)
a■ + b■ = (a² + ab + b²)(a² - ab + b²)

Mixed Patterns
a■ + a²b² + b■ = (a² - ab + b²)(a² + ab + b²)
Example: b■ + b² + 1 = (b² - b + 1)(b² + b + 1)

Quadratic in Disguise
If x■ + px² + q → let y = x², then factorize as quadratic.
Example: x■ + 5x² + 6 = (x² + 2)(x² + 3)

Grouping (for 4 terms)

ax + ay + bx + by = (a + b)(x + y)
