Doppler Shift and QPSK Analysis

The document discusses calculations related to Doppler shift for mobile users moving at various speeds and angles relative to a base station, providing specific answers for each scenario. It also includes a baseband representation of a QPSK waveform and resultant channel coefficients for multipath propagation. Additionally, it calculates the probability of Rayleigh flat faded signal power falling below a certain threshold.

1. Find the doppler shift when the mobile user is moving away from base station with a speed of 90
miles per hour and making an angle of arrival of 300for receiving waves. Consider fc=2GHz.

(Ans. -41.1Hz)

2. If a user is moving in a circular path around the base station with a speed of 60 kmph, find the
doppler shift at a carrier frequency of 900MHz.

(Ans. 0 Hz)

As the user is moving in a circular path around the base station, there will not be any increase or
decrease in propagation distance and hence maintains a constant phase. Also recognize the fact that
the angle of arrival for this circular motion of the user is 900-

3. What is the maximum possible doppler shift if a user is moving at a speed of 150kmph while the
carrier frequency is 1GHz.

(Ans. 138.8 Hz)

4. Find the baseband representation of the following QPSK waveform

s ( t )=
√ 2 Eb
TS
cos 2 π f c t−
√2 Eb
TS
sin 2 π f c t ,0< t ≤T s

(Ans. x (t )=
√ 2 Eb
TS
+ j.
√2 Eb
TS
− j φi
, 0<t ≤ T s )

5. The coefficients α i e of 4 multipaths are as follows 0.6 e− j 60 , 0.45 e− j 135 ,0.35 e− j 45 , 0.55 e j 70

Find the resultant channel coefficient for low bitrate or narrowband communication.

Now the receiver took a small step away from base station so that these multipaths propagation
distance have increased by 30 cm, 15 cm, 20 cm, and 40 cm respectively. Find the resultant channel
coefficient for the new position of the receiver. Assume the carrier frequency f c=2GHz.

(Ans. 0.7 e− j 53.7 , 1.349 e− j 129 )

Add −2 π f c ∆ τ i radians to the existing phase of each path and then find the resultant

6. Find the probability that the instantaneous power (amplitude level) of the Rayleigh flat faded
signal goes below 0.01 (0.1) times of its mean square (rms) )value.

(Ans. 1%)
