Prerequisites: Basic Electrical Engineering

COURSE OBJECTIVES: The course should enable the students to:


1. Provide practical exposure to verification of basic electrical laws, theorems, and AC waveform parameters.
2. Develop experimental skills to analyze transient, steady-state, and resonance behavior in RL, RC, and RLC
circuits.
3. Enable hands-on experience in measuring and evaluating performance parameters of transformers and
electrical machines.
4. Familiarize students with LT switchgear, machine cut-outs, and safety practices in electrical installations.
5. Inculcate teamwork, experimental accuracy, data interpretation, and technical report writing skills.

COURSE OUTCOMES: After completion of course, the student should be able to:
1. Verify KVL, KCL, network theorems, and AC waveform parameters (RMS, average, form factor) through
experiments. (L3)
2. Analyze transient response of RL/RC circuits and resonance behavior of RLC circuits. (L4)
3. Measure & evaluate regulation, efficiency, and performance of single-phase transformers. (L4)
4. Determine operational characteristics, torque–speed behavior, and speed control of DC and AC machines.

5. Identify switchgear components, conduct power/impedance measurements, and prepare accurate technical
reports. (L4)

PART- A (any eight experiments from the given list)

1. Demonstration of cut-out section of machines (DC machine and AC machine).


2. Demonstration of components of LT switchgear (SFU, MCB and ELCB).
3. Verification of KVL and KCL.
4. Verification of Thevenin’s and Norton’s theorem.
5. Resonance in series RLC circuit.
6. Calculations and Verification of Impedance and Current of RL, RC and RLC series Circuits.
7. Measurement of Voltage, Current and Real Power in primary and Secondary Circuits of a Single-Phase
Transformer.
8. Performance Characteristics of a DC Shunt Motor.
9. Torque-Speed Characteristics of a Three-phase Induction Motor.
10. Speed control of DC shunt motor.
11. OCC Characteristics of DC shunt generator.

PART-B (any two experiments from the given list)

1. Verification of Superposition theorem.


2. Load Test on Single Phase Transformer (Calculate Efficiency and Regulation).
3. Measurement of Active and Reactive Power in a balanced Three-phase circuit.
4. No-Load Characteristics of a Three-phase Alternator.
5. Verfication of RMS, Average value, form factor of a sinusoidal ac waveform.
