1.
It communicates with the computers peripheral devices via the drivers usings devices
such as keyboards
2. Interface is à device or program which enables a user to communicate with the
computer
3. Graphical user interface that uses windows icons, maps and buttons
4. The program uses the OS, which communicates the instructions in a language that
the application software can understand, before it then communicates with the
printer.
5. Translates the instructions so that the application software can understand it.
6. It assigns each program to its own space on the memory to allow the data to remain
separate.
7. No, it uses the Operating system to make it understand the instructions that the user
gives.
8. The program asks the OS to create à file and store the data in, then finds à unused
section on the disk and stores it on there, away from other programs so it isn't
accidentally called.
9. GUI, Command line, Menu driver interface
10. Separate its programs so they cant be accidentally called, and controls its processors
so they can deal with any threats quickly.
11. They control the processors so the short programs are dealt with first, or they make it
take it in turns.
12. CLI requires knowing the technical vocabulary, whilst à GUI doesn’t.
13. Multi tasking is when multiple programs are being ran at once.
14. Menu driven interfaces are less complex than GUI, so were used for MP3s whilst
GUI were common in windows and apple mac
15. They are devices that are attached to à computer such as à printer or speakers.
16. Operating systems allow multiple programs to run at once by making the processors
take it in turns to deal with programs and does the shortest ones first
17. Social hierarchy, certain users will be given different permissions to be able to gain
access
18. Command line interface

1. Encryption software works by scrambling data before sending it across a network
so that it is unreadable if intercepted. To encrypt data, an encryption key is used
which will convert “plain text” into “cipher text”. An encryption key is an algorithm
which will systematically alter each piece of data.
2. Defragmentation software requires sectors and tracks for data to be stored. It also
creates à special ist called the File Allocation Table. The FAT is used to keep track of
where the data is stored. It also uses building blocks.
3. Compression software reduces the size of files. There are some reasons why file
sizes may decrease, for instance to get faster streaming speeds. Lossy compression
is when some data is permanently lost, while lossless data is temporarily lost. With
lossy compression, some of the quality is also lost, which does not occur in lossless.
4. Backware software unsurprisingly allows data to be backed up, and à copy of it is
made and stored somewhere. Full backup is when the software makes à copy of all
the files on a system. It takes à long time but can recover the data quickly.
Incremental is when it only backs up files which have been changed since last
backup. Its quicker to back up, but slower to access.
5. When you format your hard disk, you don't actually delete the data on the disk,
you simply delete the data on the disk, you simply delete the FAT. the computer can
no longer locate any data and thinks it is empty. However, the data still remains.
