1. Why is it important to assess the community needs?
- It is important because assessing community needs is crucial because it helps identify the
specific challenges and concerns faced by the people in the community. By understanding
their needs, we can develop projects and solutions that are relevant, impactful, and
sustainable. Without proper assessment, efforts may be wasted on initiatives that do not
truly benefit the people.
- 2. What are the importance of community immersion?
- Community immersion is important because it allows volunteers and students to
experience firsthand the realities of the people they aim to help. It promotes empathy,
cultural awareness, and an understanding of social issues. Immersion also help build trust
between volunteers and the community, ensuring that projects are collaborative and
genuinely helpful. It’s an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in real-life settings
while making a meaningful impact.
TASK 2: ELABORATE
1. Interviewing the head of a household with distractions from children:
- To better facilitate the interview, I could engage them by politely asking them to behave
themselves and not bother the interview. If necessary, I would politely ask a family
member if they could help watch over the kids while I complete the interview.
Maintaining a calm and respectful approach is key to ensuring a smooth conversation
with the household head.
2. Encountering a barangay council member who was not informed of the project:
- I would calmly and respectfully explain the situation by explaining that I had previously
informed the barangay officials but understand that not everyone was present at the time.
I would reassure him of our good intentions and offer to provide a full explanation of the
project. If possible, I would arrange another meeting to formally present the details and
invite him to participate or give input. Open communication would help gain his trust and
the support of the community.
