Method Sheet No. 1: Create a reading sheet for an article.
The reading report is an exercise primarily aimed at showing that you have read and
understood a scientific text. You must be able to report on the thesis of
the author, the progression of his demonstration, and to provide a reasoned critique of it. These
A few lines are here to help you.
Text choice
Choose a text that interests you or piques your curiosity. You have the opportunity to
draw from the attached list of proposed articles but you can also find,
discover, propose (by submitting your choice for validation) any item from
academic review dealing with work, employment (even professions or
organizations). In the field of sociology and more broadly the social sciences, the
The main journals are: Sociology of Work, Work and Employment (available online),
training / employment, French Review of Sociology, contemporary societies, Proceedings of the
Research in social sciences, Work, gender and societies, the social movement, Geneses
French Ethnology, French Management Review, Manage and Understand (Annals of Mines)
etc...
Most of these journals are freely accessible online at the following sites:
- [Link]
- [Link] numbers dating back 3 to 4 years or more)
Or on the journal websites directly (e.g., Work and Employment)
Or at the BU of UVSQ.
You have the option to choose a text related to the workplace, the organization,
sector of activity or the type of employment that you observe for survey work (and therefore in
link to the animal question). This way, you will be able to reinvest your work for the final file.
•Attentive reading of the text
Read the text actively by selecting the passages that pose problems for you or that
capture your attention. Highlight the strong ideas, identify the concepts used and their
definitions if applicable. Start by identifying the logical structure of the article. Reread it.
as many times as necessary.
Drafting and possible plan
In 4 or 5 typed pages, you must at least:
Recall the complete and exact references of the chosen article (this while respecting the
academic presentation standards (see bibliography sheet) and present the author.
Present the type of article (for example, if it is an investigation, specify on which)
The author relies on empirical material(s), his data collection method.
(observation, interviews, statistics, etc.).
Explain the subject of the article and the reasons for your interest in it.
Summarize the author's thesis (his response to a given issue).
Show by what reasoning or demonstration he arrives at this thesis.

Then discuss this thesis in a reasoned manner using your own
sociological knowledge or by borrowing from literature (make appear the
bibliography). You can thus demonstrate, for example, the limits of the demonstration.
from the author, what she leaves in the shadows or on the contrary show that you have been
convinced by explaining why. The important thing here is to make criticisms
built with attention to the sources used (avoid Wikipedia).
Finish by explaining what this article has brought you, taught you.
Your plan must take these elements into account. Also, pay attention to your writing (everything must
to be written) and the layout (justify your text, use an appropriate font Times New
Roman 12 for example). Good job!
The choice of the article (with its complete references) is to be submitted to me for the
3emesession.
The individual reading report is to be submitted for the [Link].
