1. The current in the primary coil of a pair of coils changes from 7 A to 3 A in 0.04 s.
The
mutual inductance between the two coils is 0.5 H. The induced emf in the secondary coil
is -

4. Assertion (A): An emf is induced in a coil when there is a change in magnetic flux
linked with it. Reason (R): The induced emf is directly proportional to the rate of change
of magnetic flux.
Both are true and
R is the correct
Reason.
5. Assertion (A): A metal rod moving perpendicular to a magnetic field develops a
potential difference across its ends. Reason (R): Magnetic force on free electrons in the
rod causes them to accumulate at one end, creating an electric field.
6. A square loop of side a carrying a current I2 is kept as distance x from an infinity long
straight wire carrying a current I1 as shown in the figure. Obtain the expression for the
resultant force acting on the loop.
[Link] Lenz's law to determine the direction of induced current in the situation described
by Fig. (a) a wire irregular shape turning into a circular shape (b) a circular loop being
deformed into a narrow straight wire. The across indicate the magnetic field into the
paper and the dots indicate magnetic field out of the paper.
8.A plot of magnetic flux (ϕ) versus current (I) is shown in the figure for two inductors A
and B. Which of the two has larger value of self inductance?
A steeper slope means
more flux per unit current, which basically tells you the inductor resists changes in current more
strongly → bigger self-inductance.
9.A rectangular loop which was initially inside the region of uniform and time -
independent magnetic field, is pulled out with constant velocity as shown in the figure.
a) Sketch the variation of magnetic flux, the induced current, and power dissipated as
Joule heat as function of time. b) If instead of rectangular loop, circular loop is pulled
out; do you expect the same value of induced current? Justify your answer. Sketch the
variation of flux in this case with time.
[Link] coils C1 and C2 are placed close to each other. The magnetic flux 𝜙 2 linked with
the coil C2 varies with the current I1, flowing in coil C1, as shown in the figure. Find (i)
the mutual inductance of the arrangement, and (ii) the rate of change of current ( 𝑑 𝐼 1 /𝑑 𝑡
) that will induce an emf of 100 V in coil C2.
[Link] magnetic field through a circular loop of wire, 12cm in radius and 8.5Ω resistance,
changes with time as shown in the figure. The magnetic field is perpendicular to the
plane of the loop. Calculate the current induced in the loop and plot a graph showing
induced current as a function of time.
12.(a) State Lenz’s law. Give one example to illustrate this law. “The Lenz’s law is a
consequence of the principle of conservation of energy.” Justify this statement. (b)
Deduce an expression for the mutual inductance of two long co-axial solenoids but
having different radii and different number of turns.
(a):
Statement:
The direction of induced current in a conductor is such that it opposes the change in magnetic
flux that produced it.
Example:
● A magnet falling through a conducting coil induces a current. The induced current
creates a magnetic field that opposes the magnet’s motion, slowing it down.
Justification (Energy Conservation):
● If the induced current aided the change instead of opposing it, the magnet would
accelerate endlessly, creating energy from nothing.
● So, Lenz’s law ensures mechanical work done = electrical energy induced, conserving
energy.

13. A. Define self-inductance. Write its SI unit. Derive an expression for self-inductance of
a long, aircored solenoid of length l, cross-sectional area A (radius r), and having N
number of turns. B. Two concentric circular loops of radius 1 cm and 20 cm are placed
coaxially. (i) Find mutual inductance of the arrangement. (ii) If the current passed through
the outer loop is changed at a rate of 5 A/ms, find the emf induced in the inner loop.
Assume the magnetic field on the inner loop to be uniform.
Self-inductance of a coil is the property by which a changing current in the coil induces an emf
in itself.

14.A. Draw a schematic diagram for an ac generator. Explain its working and obtain the
expression for the instantaneous value of the emf in terms of the magnetic field B,
number of turns N of the coil of area A rotating with angular frequency ω. Show how an
alternating emf is generated by a loop of wire rotating in a magnetic field. B. A circular
coil of radius 10 cm and 20 turns is rotated about its vertical diameter with angular speed
of 50 rad s-1 in a uniform horizontal magnetic field of 3.0 × 10-2 T. (i) Calculate the
maximum and average emf induced in the coil. (ii) If the coil forms a closed loop of
resistance 10 Ω, calculate the maximum current in the coil and the average power loss
due to Joule heating.
